UK Courses that are no more

there is/was a course at the side of Ratcliffe-on-Soar power station. Couldn't tell you anything about it though. Don't know anyone that ever played there so methinks it's a goner.

if every post contained a valid response I would have 0 post count, and if every thread stayed on subject it would be proper boring. I think it may have been the way the question was asked without any background that led to the 'smart arsed' replies.

Thoulstone Park Golf Club in Wiltshire was closed in 2002 and returned to farmland. From what I've heard about the course it's in better nick now !!:)

Don't give the guy a hard time.

What I find funniest is the fact you are so critical to the thread in general, yet you still post in it. If you don't like the thread, don't contribute. Simple.

I gave a reasoned response with an instance of what the OP was looking for. However, he then took a forummer to task for being light-hearted.

This OP has previous.

It was still there the last time I passed on the way to East Midlands.

This OP keep popping up on all the golf websites. With the same atitude. Alway asking for imformation of one kind or another. Seems to use them as a referance source. Without giving anything back.:temper: ...

RingDufferin in County Down closed a few years ago. The land was bought by a company that rented it back to a private individual for £50k a year but not enough played so closed down.
Heard today they are planning to build a nursing home on it now.

Moatlands in Kent which then became Kent National, shut up shop 2 or 3 years ago.

The first golf course designed by Stevie Wonder, Roy Orbison and Lennie Peters and based on an original sketch drawing by Ray Charles.
I think Louis Braille had a hand in the intial planning application too.
Strangely enough, the consortium weren't offered any other projects in the UK to my knowledge, although many who play Royal Ascot could be forgiven for thinking they had a hand in it.

The OP is asking a valid question.

Why smartarsed dickheads feel the need to come along and input nothing valid to the post god only knows.

Belford Golf Club shut a couple of years back but thankfully it is up and running again.

Holy Island had a 9 holer I believe pre war but it has never re appeared.I am surprised there has not been more casualties over the last couple of years.

Dodger - dickhead aimed at me twice in two days? Thanks poppet. Can't wait to catch up in person...

And in truth, why not?, what is wrong for asking for information on a forum, I thought that is what was done. And yes, it will be used as a reference source for a project, and I ask again, why not? - Although I am a writer and historian, I will never know all about all the other clubs and courses up and down the country, and whilst the Internet is bril, not everything gets on there to investigate, so the more one can use places such as this to glean and learn, the better.
And as for not giving anything back, I bet you your bottom dollar that you have got a book or something of mine on your shelf!!

I'm not sure those books were donated in some altruistic gesture. If I was after some info from source such as this forum I'd give a little background. You may be suprised at the generous response you get.

From my point of view you can have Thoulstone for free, anything else I want a buy out fee or a royalty percentage. :D
