Tv heads up - undercover boss mark king TM

If you missed it, like I just have (!) its repeated at 10am on Thursday 18th, on Channel 4 (and Channel 4 HD). I've set the Sky+!

Missed it? My post says its on Thursday! Lol happy days, seems like channel 4 are blasting the whole series all over the place anyway! It's well worth a watch.

I thought it was OK. These UB shows follow a standard format, and the TV company undertakes not to disparage the company or CEO involved. So you tend to get a show which shows him as a nice/decent guy and which highlights some unsung heroes of the company with true life stories and which identifies some areas for improvement.

Interesting programme but agree with Ethan re following a particular formula. It felt very stage managed. They chose 4 great employees for him to work with, which is fine as they got the recognition they deserve.

Very stage managed - he spent time with good inspiring employees, not disaffected militants!

I loved the bit right at the start where he said he was trying to get fewer people to spend more money on stuff they don't need! Does anyone know any of these people? :mmm:

Brilliant one hour free advert for TM/Addias.

The looks his staff were giving him when they sussed him in the factory told the true story I think.

Some of his companies work practices were not wonderful. Staff working 15 hour days, unpaid travel time and expenses for the reps. etc. If that was India or China some of us on here may have been offended.

I enjoyed it but I thought it was a little sad that non of the guys board had any respect for him. It was subtle but clear that that was the case.

The woman he told that the young pro had to pay his own fuel was thinking "ye, that was my idea, it was brilliant, he wants to work for TM so much that I have managed to get him to pay his own fuel and now your blowing it"

The guy he told about the fact that they cut shoes up was thinking "ye that was my idea, if I give them away we will sell less shoes and now your blowing it"

And so on....

I did enjoy the program and it made me laugh but clearly adidas kept him on out of respect or as part of the deal but I think he just plays golf all day as he did not show any business acumen.

The UK version of this show is much more about the boss getting on the shop floor and properly learning what's going on with a view to business improvement. The US, and I've seen some Australia episodes too which are similar, seems to be about a token job shadow with someone with a sad story, then reward them massively. Did he really not expect to be recognised when visiting the factory downstairs from his office?

well worth watching just for that lad's bowl cut and how he doesn't seem overly fussed to be told he's going to get funded to try and get on the tour
