A group of us are booked to play Turnberry at the end of February.
We have got two rounds ( one on Kintyre, one on Ailsa) and a night in the hotel with breakfast

All in for £159 a cracking deal but it has to be before March.............. Heres praying for okay weather

Good deal. Have you played the courses before?

Ailsa a much better layout in my opinion but also enjoy the Kintyre.

Andy

Hi Andy,

No not played either before and really looking forward to playing Ailsa especially. like I say though time of the year not so sure the weather will be kind but we can only hope!!!!

Sounds a bloody good deal. I played the Ailsa two years ago in May, the round was £135 and the hotel about the same. Should now be in better condition than when I played it, as they were making major adjustments prior to the Open.

The Kintyre course is a dump in my opinion. The original Arran (I think if my memory serves me correctly)course was a much better and tougher course.

The Kintyre has a couple of decent holes however its not great and I'm not really a fan if I'm being honest.

Harsh to call the Kintyre a dump but it isn't a patch on the Ailsa course.

I went up a couple of years ago and had a great time. It really is a very special place. The hotel is lovely too.

Enjoy. I'm jealous!

Played both in October a couple of years ago and we got a decent couple of days. Like any golf day it's the weather that makes it so hope you are lucky.

Ailsa is certainly the better course (it's the best course I've played anywhere by far). Personally I thought the Kintyre was pretty good too. Some cracking holes but loads of gorse bushes everywhere if you are off line. Tip - if you are a long hitter don't take driver at the 8th!

I assume you never played the old Arran course then. The Kintyre is a dump compared to that course. They destroyed a really tough and narrow gorse lined course and replaced it with something thats not only no where nearly as good but also out of keeping with the main course.

Turnberry is probably the best course I have played anywhere and the Arran was a great wee course with a par 68 as I remember. The gorse on the Arran was as high as some houses so you had to be pin point accurate of the tee not long but straight and tiny greens. What they have done is made the Kintyre and a 9 hole course that was part of the old Arran.
I think that the Kintyre is ok the realy good holes are the old Arran holes but the big plus is the practice area it is fanfastic and get's you ready for the main event.
The deal sound's great I hope you get the weather and enjoy Ayrshire's best.
Remember and take a camera the view's on and off the course are great. Standing at the hotel and looking back over the course towards Arran. 10/10

Don't get me wrong, I didn't think the Kintyre was anything special at all but I think calling it a dump is harsh.

Possibly; however I would never ever pay to play it again. It just doesn't tick my boxes.

I've played it 5 times now, thankfully only ever payed once!

It wasn't brilliant but we needed to play 3 rounds and got a decent deal with the two rounds on the Ailsa which was pretty much head and shoulders above any other course I'd played before. It is magic.

My favourite memory was driving the 18th (without much of a tailwind). I was then able to sit and watch the Open with a smug grin on my face wondering why everyone was making such a mess of it!

Rothsey!!!!!
have many a good memory of the place as was in the Airforce with two lads from the place.
was only talknig about a pub called The Gluepot I think it is today ...............how bizarre

Hope you enjoy your weekend, sounds fabulous. Not much to add in terms of comments. If you are not eating in the hotel on the evening of your stay then try Wildings Restaurant just along the road in Maidens. Really good quality food from quality local produce at a reasonable price i.e. cheaper than Turnberry. No connections just eaten there many times.
