Doon frae Troon
Ryder Cup Winner
Very friendly welcome from the Pro Shop staff and starter.
Weather was perfect sunny with a slight breeze.
The course was in splendid condition with a bit of early season run on the fairways. fairway lies were tight and it took a bit of courage to go with the three wood
The greens were slightly slower than I expected but still needed a lot of respect. Pin positions on the day were pretty scary, I think the greenkeeper must have had a row with his missus before he set them. Good sport though as we had some very challenging long putts and chips.
The early holes are very tight and with the gorse in full bloom it made it seem even tighter.
I made the mistake of taking the driver off the tee when a 3 wood would have been more prudent. Three lost balls in six holes put away any thoughts of a decent round.
The new holes from the 6th have really settled in well with the signature 8th a sight to behold.
We started at 9.30 behind three other two balls so the pace of play was good, we did complete our round in under three hours.
My playing partner was in good form and looked like he was going to break 90 [17 handicap]
He had a putt for a two on the short 16th but somehow managed to four putt. He followed this with a seven at the 17th and a great four at the last.
Great day out, wonderful course and setting plus outstanding value [as we were playing on complimentary tickets.]
