Someone that had a right strop on when he missed the 18th green. It did make me laugh though, up there with one of Smiffy's strops.:)

The thing you didn't see on camera is that the strop you mention resulted in Abbs being hit by some of the debris. That did make me laugh a little.

Hi I was the caddie for that 'Abbs' guy. I'll let him know he had some support on the forum. To be fair it seemed like most of the crowd also wanted him to win. Darren is a really nice lad who has as legitimate handicap as you could wish to have. I've never known anyone to play in as many qualifiers as he does. His progress the last couple of years has been awesome. I genuinely thought he had it in the bag after the tee shots on the sudden death play off hole.

I did too so I blame the caddie:D

Abbs looked like he could handle himself, he should have gnarled at the other lad! I was routing for Abbs also, can't believe he missed that final put, but fair dues to the other chap who got up and down after his dummy spit.

if they can reg shoot level par when it matters, time after time why are you not doing it in your own club comps?

Are they returning their away scores when they shoot 44 points to win Trilby events. If so I assume its NR on the second hole every competition to get back up!

Used to play Daily Telegraph Matchplay. The night before I was due to play someone from a course in the north of Glasgow I got a phone call from the person he destroyed in the previous round who informed me I was going to lose and he would put money on it. He explained it wasn't sour grapes and wished me luck. After a comprehensive 5&3 loss to a 17 handicap golfer who was +3 for 14 holes (he picked up at one hole) I decided that these competitions are not for me.

Its going to get even worse now, higher handicap golfers are now going to be given even more shots. Hardly worth Cat 1 golfers entering handicap competitions any more.

What happened to the guy who came on the forum and defended the Trilby Tour, offering a free place to someone so they could provide their feedback?

I still think the premise is good but the cost & sheer volume of tools that seem to be involved turn me off.

I would imagine they couldn't afford to lose £300.

I've never seen Darren get angry but he's a big lad. I definitely wouldn't want to fight him.
The problem was his first putt. It'd been raining so he thought it would be slower than it was.
You've got to give Carmichael Brown credit for the up and the down. It took a lot of bottle and I told him that

No probs mate, he seemed like the only one of those 4 players that was not 'up himself'. Definately did not come across as one of Williams 'cronies'. Good luck to him if he enters next year, just try to keep him 'grounded' so he does not come across as a 'self-licking-lollipop' like the guy who won it!!
As someone stated earlier, the first year the Trilby tour started it was far better quality gear and courses than they have now. Shame that it has turned into an hour of "William Hunt and my favourite golfing characters" with a few shots thrown in. Do not even get me started on the 'tosh' that is 'rogues gallery' with that contrived scottish accent!!

He's definitely not up himself. If anything he probably lacks confidence. He was a 9 handicapper 2 years ago and has made awesome progress and has been selected for the county this season.
No one there knew him. He'd never entered the trilby before. The most impressive bit is that neither of us had ever been to Forest of Arden before. He played completely blind which I guess is a big disadvantage when you consider the preparation some others did.
It seems your view of this event isn't too different to my own. When I agreed to caddy it was mainly out of interest to see if my view of it was correct. Having experienced the 'world championship' my view hasn't changed and I won't be rushing to enter myself

Your player was unlucky....he hit a great shot in. But that was some up and down the other fella made. The standard in the playoff was really good.

Do you hear any 'banditry' rumours when your at these events ? It just seems to be the elephant in the room when your watching it on tv.

Trilby events are non-qualifiers so scores are not as a routine returned to the Home Club. It is at the discretion of the County Union to require non-qualifier scores to be returned but I'm not sure if any County Union exercises that discretion.

Thread closed. Anything Trilby Tour related always seemes to turn into a free for all against competitors and organsiers.

Says it all when the OP kicked the whole thread off by saying..."I know we have done this to death"

Plenty of other golf related stuff to discuss
