Trilby Teens

The experience is having the cameras on you while playing the round and I am assuming a fair few spectators watching you. This is usually reserved for athletes that have reached a higher standard where as lot of people won't have acheived that at any sporting level.

I had 2 fellow competitors, 3 caddies and my girlfriend. I've had bigger galleries in scratch team matches. Only the 4 who make the play off get anyone watching.

That sounds exactly how I imagine it to be!

I don't really understand the strong reaction it provokes in some people though; if you don't like it, don't enter and don't watch it. I find it relatively entertaining - it very much is what it is!

Don't get me wrong, I actually think the concept is great but take all the ego and banditry out to make it a creditable format

Yeh that's what I kind of thought, but the possibility of making that play off can be enticing and I would say that the sky sports angle is the main reason why people enter. Everybody loves a reality star nowadays. 😉

I agree - if it were a classier affair played at decent courses, I'd be very tempted.

As it is, it seems slightly tacky and actually somewhat low quality.

I did enjoy the guy topping it all of 6 inches the other day though. His face was a picture as he plucked his tee out of the ground, made eye contact with absolutely nobody, and lined his second shot up!

the wife said to me once ,why dont you enter it .
my reply was not what she was expecting ,i told her that to play in the event it wouldnt just be the initial fee of stupid money ,but,,,,,,,,,,should i enter i would want to play the course a few times to familiarise myself with it,that would cost time and money .then add in the food ,the lost holiday days from work and you would be looking at about a grand if you took it seriously.
she didnt even realise that the initial fee was £250 [at time of asking] she thought that was a bit OTT.
SHES NOT WRONG.

back to the point, £300 for the mens is fine as people are paying it. but to charge the same for juniors regardless of whether is sells out is a joke!!

Yes it is Sam, fire an email off to them telling them so and let us know their response :D

2 words.....sex and travel

I'm all out of complaints today, just sent a long email to TaylorMade asking why my driver has been delayed 3 weeks. Cant wait for the club, but what a carry on.

No wonder the company is falling apart. I was told 7 days!!

I'm interested to know the 'experience' that it offers golfers? I'm not saying your wrong, but what is the perceived experience you get?

The reason i ask is that every single open i play in - announces you on the tee and has a live scoreboard in the clubhouse.

Thing is though, you qualify on handicap for opens. Most of us don't, and never will.

I don't see what the problem is. £285 is high but if there are people out there willing to pay it then fair dues. Nobody forcing anyone to do anything.

If people want to play silly money to play a hotel course then fair enough, but it seems to be built up to be more than it is, just seen one comment saying it is officially the largest televised amateur golf series in the UK, are there any others?

I have a problem with it. Golf should be all inclusive for juniors to encourage them into the game, not making it a rich (parents) mans sport where huge numbers will be excluded. It's bad enough an adult trying to justify that amount of money never mind paying that for a junior.

This isn't the way to get youngsters playing. It's elitist and for those with rich parents only. Not a great advert and another sign that the TT is all about making the ubiquitous Mr Hunt as much money as possible.

Rubbish, I'm not rich by any means but if my lad wanted to enter then I could afford that amount by using it as a Christmas or birthday present, how can kids on TV playing golf be a bad thing, they aint going to have a sign round there neck with dad's earnings displayed. Surely it would attract kids in to the game, for a relative small amount the chance of playing golf on Sky, just like Rory, most would love it,

Sorry but we'll have to agree to disagree. I would say that price tag is prohibitive to a large number of parents. Yes, as a one off gift it may be good but again, I'd argue a large number of parents would be hard pressed to find that amount of cash, especially if they have a couple of siblings wanting to play. To be honest, a lot of clubs already have a lot of initiatives through things like the Golf Foundation, Wee Wonders etc that have opened to game up to many kids that wouldn't have given it a second thought. Yes getting on TV is always nice, and yes I've forked out to play the TT myself. However as others have said the argument about value for money in terms of the quality of the courses played and the clothes/bag the entry fee pays for is valid and feel this has deteriorated in recent years for the main TT events and would worry the teens event won't buck that trend.

But you're an adult with an adult mind, kids see things differently and no other initiative gets them on telly and I didn't say every parent could afford it, you said only the rich could.
I wish it all the best and even if it inspires 1 kid to take up the game then well done them.

Not every parent can and surely therefore by default, only those with a lot of disposable income could pay for their teen (or several if they have brothers/sisters). I don't quite know how else I am suppose to see it other than an adult. Sadly those that can will and those that can't will look on. Not sure how that can be seen as totally inclusive

Yep but it would be even better if Big Willy used his influence and connections with Sky, Callaway, Marriott etc to set up some sort of foundation to promote junior golf instead of milking it as another cash cow.
