Going to Turkey for a week in May, spending a few days in Istanbul and going down to Izmir area to see Ephesus

Anyone been that way? Best places to stay, would prefer small coastal town rather than resort.

What else to see apart from Ephesus

Over to you lot

Went to Ephesus in the late 80s. Hard to believe it used to be a seaport. The smell in the public toilets when they were in use all those years ago must have been horrific. A long bench with holes in. You were literally sat a couple of feet away from the next person with no screen to shield you. ? We stayed in Kusadasi, which at the time was more of a building site.

Did exactly that some year in the early 90s.
3 nights in Istanbul and a week in Kusadasi. Looking at the map - Kusadasi looks more than twice the size it was back then.

Topkapi is a full day.
Blue Mosque and Hagia Sofia are a must-see. Yerebataan underground reservoir is quite spooky. Go to the Grand Bazaar if you can stand the hassle and the hustlers.

Ephesus was a bus trip from Kusadasi. We went twice in order to see all the artefacts in the museum in Selcuk as well as Ephesus.
Great view from the top row of the amphitheatre. You gaze down and see the layout of the market square and what was the harbour before the river silted up.

How did this trip go @PhilTheFragger ?
Twas great
3 full days in Istanbul, what a city, we were based 5 minutes walk from the Hippodrome which was perfect for all the sights.
Then flew to Izmir and out to Kusadasi for the last 3 days.

We booked a small group trip to Ephesus with Viator, as it was early season we were the only ones on the trip, so a private tour was had and it was very good indeed.

The food was great, the people were friendly, the weather was good and we saw what we wanted to see

👍🇹🇷
