I've had lessons for a number of years and i find them really beneficial. This year i have moved to a different coach and love his method of coaching (he has proven pedigree coaching one of the best amateurs in the world at present).

On Tuesday i turned up or my 3rd lesson with him to find he had purhcased a trackman. All i can say is WOW! being coached with the use of this was one of the best golfing experiecnes of my life.

I cannot wait for the summer and all the lessons i will have with it, i will now be coached to an outcome, rather than a process - whats the point of having a nice swing but it not being succesful?

if you get the chance to be coached with it, do it.

The range I get lessons at (Wast Hills in Kings Norton) is just about to have FlightScope installed, and I can't wait.

I'm currently taught by a pro who just teaches out of the range, but once FS is installed I'm going to at least have a few with the new resident pro. I've never had my numbers tracked before, so it will be really interesting to see how things stack up.

Once I've had the analysis I may well go back to my old coach, but we'll both benefit from the extra knowledge.

well i knew what my issues was, and we had worked on it before, but he was able to explain how the club path and swing path were different and how the effected each other. This meant that when i then hit shots we could see if i had done it correctly.

People may say its a robotic way of teaching, but i think its actually the opposite, as it gave me considerably more feel as i was soon able to say 'that was good' or 'that wasnt good' before the trackman stats showed up.

The pro at our place uses a GC2. Great bit of kit and really usefeul.

my experiences are with GC2 and i love it, apparently (and this is only from a google the other day) the GC2 is better for indoors as it tracks more at impact, whereas trackman follows the ball for a tiny bit longer. both are amazing though, imagine having one at home :D

GC2 is also a lot cheaper and come in two parts, so GC2 and HMT... I think about £6k each.

GC2 sans HMT only tracks ball data - launch, spin, speed, direction etc.

GC2 with HMT also tracks head (swing) data - by tracking the 'position indicators' on the club.

Trackman was developed in Denmark from the doppler system developed to track missiles. It tracks the balls flight from start to finish, so whatever the weather conditions, temperature, wind is about to affect the balls flight will be shown.

GC2 (& HMT) are camera base systems that capture data at impact and extrapolate those numbers to give you a calculation of the balls flight, it's a closed system so weather conditions don't affect the results any.

Every golfer who's able to should use these systems as it gives definitive feedback to those feels and changes you may be trying to make in your swing.
In my view it's a much quicker route to aid improvement, as you can immediately quantify the feel & changes rather than trying to guess some what's working and what isn't.

I have a GC2 and it is fantastic inside and out, first came across it in the fitting station at TaylorMade in Germany about 10 years ago. Trackman is supposed to be even better, so it must be REALLY good.

I had a flight scope session last april it's a great bit of kit and gives a great deal of data. Being put to good use during a lesson must be awesome! Think I'm going to have to find a pro that uses one.

The guy I have lessons from now as a trackman, so he says he will use that with me soon. Looking forward to it as my mate was on it the other week and was raving about it

I had an iron fitting one trackman the other week, that then turned into a lesson, due to some of the numbers that trackman was giving me for club path and face angle.

The pro said that he didn't know how it taught without it!

Great bit of kit though

Yep, hope my pro cracks on and gets the HMT!

In the meantime, you can simply measure the effects of what he is getting you to do - if not the details of what is causing the better (hopefully) numbers. None of these will show you why or how the different numbers are being produced, though a video probably would. Or you could simply trust his vision!

They are only tools/measuring devices. The proper coach knows how to get you to change in order to improve the numbers, which then demonstrate that the changes really have made an improvement. I'e seen a Trackman vids on how a Coach use their device to teach.

Had my first lesson 2 weeks ago with Trackman ( and digital video in parallel). As all said before great piece of kit that can really show you what and why things are happening.

You can also "normalise" the results which reduces impact of weather, so can be used in all conditions.

I also got a report emailed through to me which should before and after shots ( with flights/numbers) so that not only can I see progress I can see where I'm going wrong. It gives a greater understanding on your swing, which can only be a good thing.

I've recently changed back to my old pro who has invested in a flightscope and it is really helpful when showing whats actually happening.

One of my main issues was coming over the top of the ball, so we worked on coming down on the inside, and with the FS you can see if thats what is happening. No need to slow a video down and try and work out if you were right or wrong, its instant feedback.

My pro uses Trackman and I based a lot of what it said to make my I25 decision. We use it a lot in lessons to understand what the club is doing as I try and implement changes. It isn't the be all and end all but good to validate the changes before and after

The pro I use has a GC2 and its very useful.
However the range uses srixon range balls that are meant to give 10% less distance than real balls.
Would the GC2 pick up this, or do you need to account for a 10% increase on the distance figures to the ones given?

Always use your own clean balls, so to speak! :) Use the balls you would play with (there it is again!) if looking for best results.

update, my coach sent me my stats this morning on a report sheet. unbelievable stuff.

with regards to range balls, i heard there was a setting that you can put on the trackman, that adjusts the readings to take this into account.
