Too much thinking.

I find I stand almost 'weighing the shot up' like an indoor bowls player, trying to get the weight and consider where you want to land it, wind and ground conditions, the rest is up to the gods.

Wouldn't be a bit peculiar to have a lesson from a pro and then not think about it? :D

I'm not biting :)

Hehe... sorry, couldn't help it Bob :D

You tell people how to swing a club all day, how they need to grip the club, where to put the ball, how to take the club back properly etc etc and then come up with a post about over thinking....

You throw 'em and I'll hit 'em! :D :D :D

I know we are all different and some like to fiddle with their swing (no names) (doh) but to the rest, forget all the technical stuff and just get out there and play.

Very thinly disguised you bald old fool

I've actually taken huge strides this year into the realms of hit it, find it and hit it again as I think most of those (un)lucky enough to have played with me will agree. It was certainly the ethos on days like the Macmillan challenge and strangely enough I outscored evveryone else!

I know where I want to go with my game and for the most part how we get there and thought I'd actually reigned in the tinkering. There is certainly a lack of anything technical especially in comps these dates. Maybe one swing thought per round but that is all the mental baggage I carry these days.

Interesting thread Bob....
Iv posted on here before about playing with what comes naturally to me....No swing thoughts just align myself to my target and swing....I wasnt thinking about where the club should be or what angle it should be at the top.......

That was until i had the help of a certain chap on here....
I do have flaws that im addressing in my swing but for the most part i have alot of the basics right i think..Once i take my grip that thought leaves my head then once my alignment is square that gone too....

Now the only thing i focus on is to keep my head still and to turn my left shoulder down to the ball in the back swing..

I dont think of anything else and to be honest things are looking good at the moment...

My best rounds have come when iv just stood on the tee and knocked it in the direction of the hole and walked on :D

as definitely not a natural ball player, if I didn't have any swing thoughts the big banana in to the canal/Cricket pitch/railway line would quickly return to my tortured swing

We all think too much about golf.
How many swing thoughts go round your head during a shot.
I try to keep the head as clear as I can and think of either "don't sway" or "turn". Any more than that and God alone knows what will happen to the ball.

Thinking about my golf is fine, I'm quite analytical, which goes with me being an engineer.

Thinking about my score, and/or writing my victory speech on the 5th hole, is a no.

I have actualy had to use the forum less and do less walking round the house with my putter hitting balls and thinking about golf.

I believed if I "lived" the game I would get better but the oposit happend. It has taken me weeks to clear my mind and get back to my old swing. Now I play at play time and apart from the odd flick through the posts I try and keep my head clear of golf when not golfing. I am just now getting to the point where I "want" to play again rather than "I should go play"

Love this STUPID game!!??
