Tommos on the move.

I've been along to Dunbar a few times recently looking at courses amongst other things, Winterfield does not look like a good course, maybe it plays better than it looks but it's short too isn't it and it didn't inspire me at all. Contrast when I rolled up at Dunbar I immediatley liked the look of it, layout looks great and decent practice area too. I heard they lost a couple of greens in spring tides a year ago, that was the only thing putting me off.......oh and the wind!
Let us know what it's like once you get your feet in the door.

Birdieman, they never lost the greens, there was serious damage around a couple of greens and some damage to large parts of some fairways.........they've all been sorted now and some new features have been introduced. Check it out.

Homer, this was not a sudden decision. For me this was coming for a long while, over the last few seasons, and some things happened last year the made my final decision easier. It's not just leaving a club, it's a club where I know everyone. Years ago this course used to be immaculate, it was that good the green keeper got the top job at North Berwick west from it, it was his CV. If the present greenkeeeper had half a brain he would know his CV is his job. More to come.

To be honest I'd leave too... the place is probably full of Scottish people! ;) ;) ;)

..... although I'm not sure Dunbar will be any better :D

Dunbar's a great course. Played it twice. First time it was so windy we had to walk in after about 12 holes, it was totally unplayable. But we were so impressed we cancelled where we were playing on the Friday and went back there again.
Unusual start isn't it?

I'd agree that Dunbar is superior to Winterfield, but an honourable mention has to go to hole 14 at Winterfield, one of my favourite par threes anywhere....a terrific hole.

It is the best par three I've ever played, by a long way.

People go on about the 13th at The Glen, but it's not in the same league as Winterfields 14th.Even the much copied Redan isnt as good (imo)
