Please be aware of your elderly fellow forumers during this cold spell. Make sure that they are safe and well.

Also look after the forum idiots who think its sensible to cycle into work on days like today. Not once but twice thecraw was lying on the cycle track nursing no more that bumps and bruises as well as dented pride when the wheels of my bike went whoooooooooooooooooooosh from right under me!

The second one was an absolute peach as well. A lovely little downhill section as I'm coming into Linwood. Thecraw taking it rather easy due to the previous bumps and bruises suddenly finds himself falling once again from the saddle in full view of all the flats overlooking the cycle track. Thecraw hits the ground and does a lovely Torvel and Dean impression on his back as he continues sliding down the icey hill on his back followed by the bike skidding along after him, quite like a faithful dog actually!

Someone in these flats overlooking was probably howling with laughter at me, someone must have seen it.

Dented pride and a slight rip in my windstopper tights, no ladders just a rip - raging!:o

I hope it was more Dean than Torvill Crawford. Got a man coming to do some logging for me tomorrow, so this old boy should be warm this Xmas.

It's got something to do with the coefficient of something or other.
Mind you did that a few times donkey's years ago on a Vespa scooter. It comes as quite a shock to discover how hard tarmac can be.

I've worked Linwood for two years now and its full of decent people. I'd live in Linwood before Paisley without a shadow of a doubt.

Amanda, sadly I don't have a garage so the turbo trainer is a no no for me. Far to noisey for the house. A turbo is on the "to get" list once I move as w garage is something the new house must have.

There are decent people everywhere Craw (even Paisley I Suppose), it's a shame that Linwood has been allow to decay to the point it is at now from what (I believe) was a really thriving place. Have drank in the Clippens a few times but generally leave before nightfall! :D

Mine is in the conservatory so just far enough away from the living quarters! Actually it pretends to be a conservatory but looks like a gym with a treadmill, stairclimber and weights !!

Mind you the magnetic turbos are less noisy...perhaps the newer fluid ones even more so?

Definitely not a nice feeling when you're on the way down waiting for it to happen.

Do you have clip-in shoes/toestraps? That's even worse.

I used to have a mountain bike so at least I could try to put my foot down. Not so good when you scrape your shin down all those teeth on the big pedals though.

Clipped in. Easiest way to cycle. I guess also easier to fall when you can't get your feet out in time.

Agreed and safer until you fall (no slipping off the pedals). I forgot to unclip twice though and a less than elegant fall to the ground attached to the bike :o

I'm currently being very selective about when I cycle to work. If I have another option, it gets taken. If I start before the buses or finish after them then I have no real other option. I must admit that the road bike is also in hibernation and the mountain bike has made its reappearance.

Bike in hibernation now, unless we get a freaky dry spell. Skinny tyres, wet roads, tree debris, ice...none of them are a good combination - I managed a spectacular 'get-off' in the middle of summer, so winter is a no-no for me :o

I'm feeling it today.

Right shoulder is sore, right hip is yellow, going purple and very sore, right hand is sore and my neck and back are stiff. I guess I gave myself a bit of a clatter and the tarmac won!
