.........you need a computer.
Are we relying too much on computers?

I went into Homebase a few years ago to buy a fence panel for my back garden.
I went to the outdoor garden section and had a scout around. Nothing.
So off to customer services........do you have any fence panels please?
Tap tap tap on the keyboard.....yeup, we have 6. Out the door, on the left.
Doh, must have missed them.
Back we go, turn left.....nothing.
Found an assistant, any fence panels please? back to C. services, a quick chat between the staff...
"I told the 'gentleman' already, there are 6 outside on the left.
Back we go. Still nothing.
Back to C.S. another quick exchange....Look, it says here there are 6 in stock so they must be there.
Can you show me please?
No, I cant leave the desk.
Ok, good afternoon and off I went to B&Q

Have you been beaten by a computer?

Bought M'lady a new computer for Christmas.
The one she wanted was a last in store demo model at a good discount.
It would have taken 3 hours to clean the machine so we declined. We were 120 miles from home and could not spare the time.
Walking out of the shop they 'discovered' another new boxed one that was not on the computer stock list.
We bought it for the same price

So Bob .........Yes and No

Some months back there was quite a large amount of roadworks going on in the centrre of Town.
Somehow, someone managed to sever the major electricity cable that supplied the 2 main Shopping Centres and the High Street.
Between 10am and 4pm - when they finally managed to get the power back on - absolutely no business was done by any of those shops as they couldn't print out receipts and couldn't open the tills.

When the Martians invade, all they have to do is take down 20 satellites , The server centres for the mobile phone and broadband network, half a dozen power stations and a couple of petrol distribution depots.
Add in half a dozen Motorway bridges and a few railway lines and we are totally screwed

World Power to every man for himself in 2 days

Now where did I put my copy of "War Of The Worlds"

Had a few occasions computers say about stock levels must be there but try aren't, one year it meant my lad went without the Xmas present he wanted as we'd reserved it ony to get to te store to be told they'd never had the stock and was a computer error.

But to even things out, my daughter is 6 and before se was born we ordered a Winnie the Pooh cotbed from the mothercare baby plan, paid it all up and was delivered 4 weeks before she was due. Thing is 3 days later another one arrived at our door by private courier, got on phone to mothercare who told us categorically no the computer says we only dispatched one you must be confused Mr Fader! So I signed for it and did try again few days later to get it returned by going in store but was again advised computer says no I must be mistaken.

Upshot was as they refused to accept they'd sent me 2, I was able to sell on the extra one brand new in the box for only £20 less than we paid for the one we had! Karma is a bitch though as shortly after our daughter was born te Mrs buggered off to Cheshire for another fella taking the kids with her. But we do have fun when there here

Edit: why does the iPhone have to randomly correct words so sentences make no sense

Computers are fantastic, I work within a hr systems team, it's amazing the grief we get, oh the system, is rubbish, oh it's useless. But as soon as it goes down, the split second it times out, OMG the wold in coming to an end, no one in HR can function properly!

Our provision orders for the hospital ward have recently been computerized. Everything has gone tits up. Wards having to revert to phoning emergency orders through as the computer based one didn't arrive with all the ordered items etc. I got a delivery docket with about 10 items the other day. only one item didn't arrive and wasn't an essential. The dock reported that 5 of the items had not been issued but here they were sitting in front of me, God knows what's going on.

Worst thing was they switched straight over. No lead time time with dual ordering in place while people got used to the old system or anything.
