Am looking for new irons - and have been smitten by the Titleist AP2s. Anyone got any, or got any comments on them? (Was having a look through people's tags - to see if anyone has them - but didn't notice anyone who does?)

I have them, they were a little expensive when I got them towards the start of the year when they were first out and felt a little unsure whether they were worth it, They soon proved their worth when my scoring began to improve, getting them has definately perked up my game and am back getting my handicap cut again, something that didnt happen for 2 years with my previous TM RAC LTs.
The clubs are gorgeous to look at and hold, Im not going to say they are magical and inspire me to things I could never o before but the playability of these irons are far better when it comes to trying to shape shots, with my previous set of TMs I could still get round but I didnt dare try to use the clubs in any other style than normal, now Im enjoying the feel of the titleists so much so that I am practicing the cuts, draws and knock down shots. These shots to me, with the old clubs just wernt possible as the clubs felt akward and nothing felt solid out of the middle.
My advice, at least get a few of them onto the range, if you do like them which Im sure you will, get covers fo rthem as they are soft, I have covers on mine and they still look spangly new. I have seen a set which have suffered mild bag chatter and if prolonged they will suffer Id bet.

Well I'm in much the same boat as yourself Backwoodsman, in that I was looking for new irons too. Following a decent season I needed better irons as my G10 were just hitting ball too high.

So after about 5 hours at the fantastic Strathclyde driving range (Great staff) I've plumped for the AP2. What a lovely club to hit and they should do me for as long as I want now that I've picked up a better play club.

Only slightly disappointing thing is the delays with Titleist at the moment. Mine have been ordered for over a week now and the estimated date from Titleist is mid October.

PS Brendy - Thanks for the tips re headcovers. Did you get the material or rubber ones?

Thanks Brendy & Haplesshacker.

I think I am going with them. I've been working my way through the racks and ruled out a couple of makes/brands that I was certain I'd like. Came to the Titleist's and took out the AP1 & AP2 - with the idea that the AP1s might be ok. Was certain the AP2 were too good a club for me, but just fancied a go with them. And, as Sod's Law was bound to show, it was the ones that cost the best part of £200 more than the others that I found easiest to use and fell for. Hmmm. So now, where did HID hide her holiday money....

lol I have been looking at the AP2 this afternoon and they look beautiful, don't think I have a spare £500 though. I want to try the new mizuno MX900's since they have replaced the MX25s, but since they are about the same price :D

I've been looking to for a new set of irons.

After 5 years of drifting away from golf, I got the bug again this season. I'm playing with a set of lynx black cat that I bought 16 years ago.

I'm looking for a set that will improve my game. I'm not sure it the AP2's will too difficult to master. I'm currently playing of 14 but steadily moving down.

What handicaps are you guys who are using AP2's?

I was lucky enough to hit a few balls with the AP2’s tonight and I must say I’m impresed. The head is slightly smaller than my R7’s, they look like a blade at address and they feel superb when striking the ball. This set had Project X shafts and I wanted them within striking a few balls.

Then I went back to my R7’s and I hit them just as sweet.

Just got them myself, after playing with Zing 2's for over 12yrs.

Only played a couple of rounds so far, and not on my course, but I just love the look and feel of them, and so far, I'm hitting them well.
Even though i've had the loft strengthened by 1degree, as on my Zing's, they dont seem to be quite as long, so am having to re-learn my yardages to an extent.
Might be purely down to the extra weight in the Zing2 heads, or perhaps the shafts, as the ProjectX 5.5's are slightly stiff, but suited me in keeping it straighter hopefully.

Bag 'chattter' seems to be occuring already, I assume this is just the price you pay for a forged set, although I must admit, after using Cast Zings which still are relatively un-marked after 12yrs, its a tough thing to accept :-(

However, I love em, and am sure they are just the tools to inspire me lower than my current 11. :)

Cant see that happening with the AP's, such has been their popularity and fact that Titleist wont be bringing new irons out in 2009.

I got mine for £485 for 3-PW, from an Ebay seller with very very good feedback and who wanted a quick sale on Brand New set, serial number correct etc etc.
A lot of fakes on there too, so be careful, but you can get them for a decent price if you're patient.

Chris, I have S300 Dynamic Golds on mine (no loft changes) and mine are going every bit as far (if not a yard stronger).
Tomo, get your hands on a decent set (read:around 20-30 quid) of head covers, battered forged irons look awful compared to their original pristine beauty.

brendy: I tried the S300 and found it a little dead feeling for my swing, could feel the head better with the ProjectsX.

Maybe I need time to fit into them, after all, only had a couple of full rounds so far.
