Titleist 714 AP Combo

Good day all,

I think I have set my sights on getting a Titleist 714 Combo set between the AP1's and AP2's in KBS tour shafts. Does anyone currently play a combo set and if so what is your set up?

I am looking at the 5,6,7 from the AP1's and the 8,9,PW in the AP2's. I dont go any lower than the 5 because I game a 3 and 4 hybrid which I am extremely consistent with.

Any thoughts, experiences?

Using combo sets does work and can give the best of both worlds. The only thing that stops me doing the same is resale value is poor as very few golfers will consider a combo set so they are hard to shift on. If that doesn't bother you then go for it.

Thanks for that buddy and yes it did cross my mind however as this will be my next set of clubs for a VERY long time, I've come to the conclusion that it won't bother me really.

Got my ap1,s 714's just before Christmas (golf support shop and internet) mansfield basically cox it 3 miles away and cheapest on the net. Part chopped in me old 710's for um. Was not bothered about the 712's cos for me there was hardly any difference between the 2 sets. However the 714's are gorgeous.

not quite sure why you would want to have a mixed set because am not good a good enough player to answer it without making myself look a tool. However when I was measured up at golf support for the clubs they have the simulator which shows ball flight etc, and whoever you get your clubs from I really would ask them to compare both clubs (eg 5-7-9 ) from ap1 and ap2 just to see if there's much difference you may be pleasantly surprised. Played nine yesterday and the ball flight was gorgeous for me. It is something titleist have said they improved but it cheered me up no end. Good luck me man.

I would be very surprised if you needed a combo set to be honest, from the 5 down to wedge, I wouldnt think there is much in them, more the 3 and 4 irons would be slightly easier to hit as it isnt like you are going from cavity to blade, they are both decent cavity heads on the ap1/2 sets.

I agree with above. If your gaming the 3, 4 and 5 iron then a combo set would work.... I know lot of the Callaway Apex fans are doing this in the states....
One thing to check on is the lofts across the combo are still gapped enough to get your desired yardages.... as we all know the numbers on the bottom aren't all the same lofts!

Get fit, see the ball flights and adjust the lofts to suit between the sets...

i'll third brendy and sybez, there's no need for a combo set for someone who's handicap is going in your handicap's direction especially if you're not hitting the 3 or 4 iron. just go for the ap2's and the set consistency that that would offer.
