Think everyone is pleased he's back.
Nope.
I'm not speaking for everyone here, or the general public, just me.
There's no doubting he is a great talent and a good ambassador for the game and fun to watch, but jeeezzzz, do we have to see every minute of his round?
150 golfers play the first 2 days of a regular stroke play event and all we see is Tiger plus maybe half a dozen holing a few putts from 3 feet.
It's been great watching other players we certainly wouldn't have seen had Tiger been playing.
My question is this
He is loaded, gorgeous wife, new family, he has enjoyed the good life for the last 8 months.
Does he still have the commitment and drive he needs to beat the best golfers in the world.
Is Jacks' record enough to keep him going?
(Sorry, that's 2 questions)

I want to see a windy Turnberry Open with Woods and Harrington duelling the back 9 on Sunday - I want to know who's the better links player these days.

Woods is the best player on any type of course any where in the world when he is playing well.

Absolutly NO contest!!!

Apart from the rest of his game he is mentally miles ahead of everyone out there!

Don't agree.
He was good in his day as were all the rest of the great players, but he's lost it.
He's a spent force and a "has been"
Look out for young Rory and Paul Casey this year

As much as I like and admire Tiger for what he's done for the game. I liken him to Michael Schumacker (sp), as he's in a different class to the rest, it does get a bit dull watching the same person win all the time. Look how much more exciting motor racing became when schuey retired.

I reckon the way Harrington took the playoff at Carnoustie, his back nine at Birkdale and the way he stared out Garcia in the PGA gives him enough Major winning experience to compete with Tiger, Paddy would not get intimidated by him like some pros do. Paddy knows Tiger has nmore shots than he does but it's 'how many' not 'how' and could easy give Tiger a doing on a breezy UK links.
The gap between Tiger and the rest is far smaller than it was 6 or 7 years ago.
It's going to be an interesting golf year whatever.

That is quite possibly the single, most stupid remark I have ever read on an internet forum....congratulations!!!

Labelling Tiger as a spent force & a has been is bad enough, but to mention Paul Casey in the same sentence as Tiger is just laughable

Casey is good, so is Rory, but come on, you seriously believe they'll challenge Tiger? That said he is a spent force though isnt he? Who, in his last competition beat the rest of the field pretty much on one leg!!!

I think it's good he's back, purely and simply because he is an awesome talent. However, I'm sick of hearing about him in articles which are about other golfers. No writer can write something without a sentance about Tiger it comparing the person they are writing about to Tiger. Even Bill Elliott has done it on several occasions. He'll be writing about Garcia of someone then chuck a sentance in to compare them to Tiger. And for a comentator to suggest the Open trophy for 2008 should be marked with a star to say Tiger was excluded from the field is rediculous, even is this was tongue in cheek it's still degrading to all the other golfers. I'll be watchin someone take a shot and you'll hear the comentatore say "how would Tiger play this". Has the golf not been just as good to watch without Tiger??? Birkdale still attracted over 200000 fans without him, and that was with the cold, winds and rain.

Welcome back tiger, but not really bothered

I've been to a few opens, including Birkdale last year, and for me it just wasn't the same without Tiger.
The highlight of the day is seeing who i consider the greatest sportsman on the planet, and the circus that surrounds him.
he would not have come back unless he was 100% ready, all the guy cares about is winning.

You're right. I was fishing a bit. Sorry guys. Just wanted to see what people's reactions would be.
I'm sure he will go on to win at least 1 major this year, maybe too soon for Augusta, but certainly USO or USPGA.
As for Birkdale last year, I followed Greg Norman around all day on Sunday and he was a pure delight to watch, both on the course with his play AND off the course signing 1000s of autographs. The only other player who may have signed more autographs was your man Padraig. Both class acts :)

Hi ,

I think it's great that Tiger is back , I look forward to seeing how the knee injury has hampered him. I also believe that it will be good for all the up and coming players who want to try and take the number 1 position.

I do how ever think it is a strange comp to come back in as there is poss a lot of golf to be played with the poss of extra holes , if you remember a while back Tiger was taken to hole 20 on his way to winning the comp. He could of chosen a comp that every round you play there is not a chance of the extra holes, I still believe that this will be a good test of his mental strength , stamina and his determination . Good luck to him.

Cheers

It will be great to have him back in action - a chance for all of those who have gone on about stepping up to the plate to put action to these words and try come good against the world's best.

I'm not what you would call a Tiger fan but I am desperate to see the golf world produce genuine contenders to Tigers throne whilst Tiger is in the field and on a consistant basis, not just one or two flashes in the pan!

However on the flip side there is a chance he could only have to play 10 holes per day....

Highly unlikely but it could happen!

Good point KeefG, I had not thought of it like that.

Cheers
