NR yesterday but still managed a point 2 cut in handicap.

Crazy and not a ruling I agree with.

1 over after 6 then turned back into a stretch of 7 holes that were all into a 30mph wind and went bogey, bogey, double, lost ball NR before shooting 1 under for the remaining holes which sees me with effectively a 74 nett and a CSS of 76.

Now if my ball was still in play and I had taken an actual 6 on the 10th would I have free wheeled in from the 11th tee in 1 under with a bit more pressure on as I had something to play for??

Doubtful.

Also had I played a 2nd ball at ten (I didn't as it was a yard into the 1st cut so thought I would have no trouble getting it and when I didn't there was a log jam behind so thought bollox I'm not heading back to play another) would I have made 7,8 or even a 9?? It was playing driver 3 wood!!

Not agreeing with this crazy ruling chaps......am I missing something though? What do the forum think and can you see where I am coming from?

Surely for h/cap your NR hole was counted as a nett double, and so no matter score you shot (8,9,10) you would have still got your cut.

I hear what you are saying but with a card in my possession would I have went on to free wheel round in 1 under after that??

As I say,extremely doubtful.

I got the same cut as the guy who won it...........doesn't seem right, the lad screwed the nut and took decisions based on where he was score wise where as I played like I couldn't give a toss and went for shots I wouldn't have with a card in my hand.....it was brutal out there.

If I hadn't 3 putted 17 from no feet and missed for inside 8 feet on 4 other occasions I would have had a mammoth cut despite baling out after ten holes!:mmm::mad:

Not sure what to think to be honest. You played good golf (apart from one hole) and deserve a cut for playing well ... But your suggesting its not a fair cut because you weren't aware you would get cut ?!?

I am suggesting getting a cut when the handbrake is off seems a tad odd.

Really doubtful I would have scored so well coming in if I was still going but I suppose you never know.Happy I played decent as I have been dreadful the few times I have pegged it up recently.

Why don't we just tell everyone to take simply record a nett double on your card to keep you in the competition if you lose a ball and see what happens from there.........a bit of a mulligan almost but it keeps everyone scoring?

Would mean no NR's and keep moaning Match Secretary's happy!;)

Would you really like to hear of someone winning a prize without playing one of the holes?

Sitting pretty on the 18th and 6 under handicap I decide to walk the hole to declare a 4 under round instead .... My mate would love that as he scored an 11 last week after sticking 3 balls OOB on the 18th and proceeding to screwup what was a good round.

I suppose when I think about it,it happens in stableford, just seems a bit odd in a Medal.

Stableford....the way forward,introduce it into the Majors.....way more interesting!!

Remember that your handicap is a 'stretch' indication of how good you are able to play - and not an indication of how you will play any particular round. So the fact that your free-wheeling in with an excellent score, shows that were you to get your head in the right place for a round you could score a blinder.

The handicap system is designed (obviously) to get your handicap down to reflect your golf playing ability - and it'll obviously always lag behind but if your round was not a one off it'll eventually settle at your level of ability.

Also remember, if you have a 'fluke' round (and we can all have one of these) and score miles better than your actual play perhaps merited - and say you get cut a couple of shots (tough) - if you actually can't really play to that you'll go back up - albeit a lot more slowly than you came down - but such is the price of success in a qualifying comp :)

I agree, a h/cap is based somewhat on your potential. What you then score on the round is up to what game you bought with you that day.

Sounds like you played a decent back 9 Dodger, well played.
