So still plenty of this campaign running online which is great, however.......

Am i the only one that think its being completely ruined, undermined and pushed back to the 80's with constant lingerie shoots and beachwear from the likes of Carly booth and others being bombarded on twitter and other media? (followed up i might add with hundreds of replies from I assume middle aged men old enough to be her father which are on the wrong side of tasteful)

I just think its ruining what has the potential to be a great campaign.

Thoughts please...

Yes it has.... but to be honest the campaign its self is unnecessary. Shoving thing like this is peoples faces is not the way to go. OOOoooo Woman play golf... So what, it should always have been like this, its a crime that its not always been like this, lets get on and be normal about it. We did not send someone to Mars, we "allowed" woman the same human rights they should have always had!

Glad its not just me then Al! How is a picture of an obviously attractive girl in her pants going to help female golf? Just cheapens it and sticks it all back ten years+ In the day in age where young girls are already being manipulated in thinking how they should look by the media, this really doesnt help anyone. its a sorry state of affairs IMHO.

I would like to say though, the original campaign, i think its great! Showing women that golf can be cool and its not for fat middle ages men in a pringle tank top.

PS. In over 7000 posts, i think this is possible the most grown up and sensible thread i have started!

You are a boring old man and you belong on a golf forum..... But I totally agree :D

I was not aware of this campaign but someone mentioned attractive girls in not much so I googled it. Pro's on tour wear very short skirts, female athletes run in glorified bikinis. Neither do themselves any favours in getting taken seriously. The world mocked Sepp Blatter when we talked about women footballers wearing tighter shorts but is this much further away?

I enjoy the pictures, I'm a bloke, but I also cringe as it is using the world of FHM, GQ etc to sell their sport. Would anyone expect to see Jordan and Rory in speedo's taking driver for a photo shoot? Come on ladies. There are so many young, excellent golfers, golf clothing has moved on a long long way. You don't need to do skimpy photo shots any more to sell the game.

This thread is useless without pics :)
Anyway imagine the increase in slow play with guys from adjacent fairways offering to help search for lost balls.

Time and a place for everything, like now, I'm sat by the pool surrounded by near naked ladies
Dont work to hard :)

Not 100% sure who you follow on Twitter, are you sure they are golfers;).

However I follow Carly Booth and yes she does like posting some saucy pictures. But then again she is in control of them, she knows what she is doing and to me it does not really undermine the thisgirlgolfs campaign. From watching some of the videos she did with Pete Finch she seems a really nice fun young lady and exactly the type that golf needs to shake of it's pretty poor image in respect of it being an all inclusive game for both sexes and all ages. I suspect that she would be able to hook more people that this campaign is aimed at in 5 minutes than any middle aged male golfer, no matter how many titles that have won.

Plus the media is saturated with these types of images and all young people have seen a lot worse. I fully appreciate that the campaign is not just aimed at youngish girls, but I am not so sure the majority of the market this campaign is aiming at would be bothered or think Carly is undermining the campaign. All of the that will come from crusty old middle aged sad blokes, as this thread will no doubt prove. ;)

I personally don't see any issue with it. Carly seemed pretty proud of them, raised her image and presumably earnings.

Whilst it happens more for female athletes, I do think a fair chunk is difference of perception in how people see the images. I could be wrong but I don't see much discussion around Beckham or Ronaldo posing in underwear for adverts, Rory with his shirt open in men's fitness or the many others shown in Heat or other magazines in a state of undress. Perhaps because the sport viewing is more established, or it's a clearer specific reason but the pictures are fairly similar.

Good post, and the reason is called double standards.;)

The question is this... Are we following the likes of Carly cos shes a good golfer or cos shes kinda hot... If its the latter in any way then is it great for the "sport"? Are you going to start watching Carly for example actually play a comp? I'm pretty much not going to....

Sex sells but if we are just buying sex then whats the point... its does not need to have anything to do with golf. Being as the very backwards world of golf has only just (and lets face it only slightly) allowed woman to be treated like humans, is the sex image the one that helps them be seen like human beings? Sports people, Competitors, Peers?!

Good point, Rory would never use his looks to bolster his image or increase his bank balance would he

Ill ask HID but I am pretty sure that Rory is hideously ugly and all the six packs in the world will not help him sell anything.....

That's a subjective call. But at the end of the day he's doing exactly the same as Carly Booth is in these photos.

It is... and he is... Thats said, its not the norm really?! For men in golf.

Probably not the norm, but then again it isn't in the female game either. Also how many male golfers have a ripped 6 pack they want to show off anyway? Rory as we have already seen, Tiger, Fowler?

It's strange how people complaining golf needs to move forwards into the modern times complain about a girl using what she has to increase her coverage both for her and the sport. She is not my cup of tea (apart from being too young) but I admire how she is using social media to her own ends. Perhaps she is putting the counter arguement that girls that play golf are not just "nerdy plain Janes" ( and I mean from a youngsters perspective).
