Have been playing some really good golf recently, consistently going round 86/87, and very happy with my game.

Medal yesterday and was actually feeling good about getting a cut (currently play of 22) and bam, a sucker punch to the head, go out and shoot 101........ I can image every single one of the 14 shots over that 87 mark, mainly duffed chips, and putts that lipped out, oh....and the 4 putt from 8 feet when putting for par....... Driving wasn't too bad, hit 13 fairways, but just one of those days when absolutely nothing fell in my favour with the short game.

Hugely disappointed with that round .......looks like I'll be staying at 22 for a few more months.....Hmm, playing in a charity stableford on Friday, maybe I can use that to my advantage....

4 putts from 8 feet?
Now, let me think, how can I help?

Chipping and putting well is the key to saving shots and keeping momentum going.
Have you ever had a short game/putting lesson?

My short game is usually the best part of my game, just deserted me yesterday...... I have had putting and chipping lessons and am an advocate of this side of the game. It's the part I practice most. The 4 putt was a strange one, left the first putt uphill about 12 inches short. As I lined up to take the next one the brain went into overdrive and just as I was about to take the putt, my shoulders locked up. A little voice in my head actually said to myself "step away" but I didn't and continued the stroke anyways........the ball went in, around the cup and flew out about 8 foot back down the hill. The return putt stopped on the lip but didn't drop...... I just checked my stats on swingbyswing, my average putting per hole is 1.9, just have to chalk it down to one of those days....

That's exactly what it was...

We've all been there. I average 30-31 putts per round but every now and then I chuck in a 37 or 38. The week after though I'll chuck in a 27 or 28... That's this wonderful game we all love/hate so much.

agree with all the above. I am actually going to have a 2 week break from the course and do a bit more practice as I have definitely neglected it recently and played a lot more golf instead.

Put it behind you and I am sure the magic touch will return. Even the pro's can go from shooting a 65 to a 78 in the space of 24hrs!!!!

You 4 putted from 12ft Bob,so how do you think you can help?

Ha well console yourself. I just had 8 lessons and went out at the weekend and shot my worst round of golf for about 8 years. Couldn't drive, hit irons, chip, pitch or putt. But apart from that I was pretty good.

It was one of those rounds where you don't even want any advice as my head was totally gone. At the end I walked off and declared that was it for me, I never want to play again.
No doubt I will get over it and be back on the course soon though. Sometimes golf is your friend and sometimes it decides to smack you in the mouth for no reason !
