Things That Gladden The Heart

So young Bradley Tash gets £140 for his birthday and Xmas which was sat in our house. Sunday he asked if he could buy an electric Guitar, left handed. £100. After a bit of tow ing and fro ing. It turned up earlier today. Small amp and enough to get him going. Spent the last 20 mins listening to some Nirvana riff. 😳
That's your pension sorted then, when he's doing 3 nights at the O2.
By the way, almost every guitar showroom has a notice in the demo room "No Smoke on the Water"!!

That original post, I posted it last night but it didn’t come on the site. I just put it on. Apparently he is now playing “smoke on the water”.
The good thing is, he hasn’t been on his phone since he came home.
I was just about to reply to your previous post about the Nirvana riff that things could be worse: he could be playing Smoke on the Water 🤣

Currently sitting in a car park at a medical centre in Hounslow - Jeez I thought Aylesbury was the boil on the backside of humanity -and the car park has several pay stations.
I did my homework and found out that they accept real money...so, armed with the appropriate coinage, it took me 22 seconds to get my ticket and back to the car. Just watched 3 different people spend 5 minutes each trying to pay with their phones...😁😁😋

Possibly needing to install an app for it. Sometimes using the app is a benefit though, because if your parking time is about to expire you can just top it up with another hour without having to go back to your car.

At the vets yesterday we were sat in the busy waiting room. An owner came in with a really nervous Labrador, which was shaking. The owner wasn’t compassionate, dragging and being really short/curt. The receptionist was lovely. Made a real fuss of the dog - calmly stroking and giving cuddles, in an attempt the relax it before the appointment. The owner wasn’t compassionate at all and spent her time loudly on the phone, despite her shaking/whimpering dog. We let them go in front of us as the dog was clearly distressed.

When they come out, it was like a switch had flicked. The dog was now much calmer and going round the place, having a sniff and greeting people whilst the oblivious owner was at the counter sorting the bill. It quickly became apparent she wasn’t happy with what she was being charged and started arguing with the poor receptionist.

Her dog came to see what was going on - but was ignored and voices began to be raised. It was at this point that karma intervened. Her dog start weeing. Not a nervous wee (unfortunately the aggressive/loud behaviour must have been normal), but a full blown 5-6 pint wee. It looked like the dog was trying to power wash the vets counter, then rather wonderfully, their owners really expensive looking handbag, which was placed on the floor.

It took her a couple of seconds to register what was going on, before she moved the now dripping bag out the way. To top it off, the receptionist pointed to the sign which said owners are responsible for their animals mess and handed over a mop and bucket. Made me feel all warm inside.

Seems Ian Huntleys Life support is being turned off - really good idea to help save money 👍

I’m going to disagree with this one.

When I did my CID course we had a full day’s input from Chris Stevenson, who was the Senior Investigator in the Soham case. As a consequence I am privy to quite a lot of the background to this case which has never made it into the public domain.

Ian Huntley should have lived well into his 90’s, spending every waking hour crapping himself and looking over his shoulder in abject fear and misery.

Death in his 50’s is way too good for him.

Yeah I can understand that view as well and I hope he suffered until he held his last breath

Personally BB. I sometimes Don’t know how some bobbies ( and am sure there are other Occupations) sleep at night. I have heard my daughter talk about things that have not hit mainstream news and wonder how her head retains that info without going into meltdown.
Re Huntley. He is scum Of the earth. Only his mother will Shed a tear and he was the prime example of the death penalty.

Totally agree with the above. I don’t agree with the death penalty, even by unofficial proxy, that’s just state sponsored murder.

There’s also.a fairly long and terrible catalogue of miscarriages of justice that have had to be corrected later, and I don’t think we’ll ever eliminate that possibility entirely. Given this fact, then if you’re in favour the death penalty, you’re in favour of (or at least happy to accept) the state sometimes killing innocent people.

Possibly not the right thread, but I didn’t want to start a new one.

I have just had a bit of a light bulb moment. Nicky Campbell’s article (linked above) discusses how we have become more and more entrenched in our own views. Years ago, a debate meant a debate, and we would listen to other views when they didn’t align with our own. We were occasionally persuaded to amend or even change our views. But nowadays, I can’t recall a ‘debate’ on here where anyone has conceded sufficiently to amend their position. But , again, it’s not just here, it’s everywhere. The light bulb moment is that I now understand why I can’t abide the Radio 2 lunchtime show with Jeremy Vine. There has not been a debate/discussion on the show for years when a phone in listener has conceded a single point.

Now I feel better for knowing why and I will still switch stations at 1200.

I am more than happy to sit on the fence and see things from both sides. The worst that can happen is you get splinters on your ass. Once you are off the fence. Some folk find it very hard to see the other side. Politicians and influencers do my trolley in.
