I live quite close to a big RAF camp where the Red Arrows used to be based.
As you can imagine after a while, the novelty of watching them fly over my house most mornings soon wore off but then they moved to Scampton.
Well there must be a do on today on the camp because they're back buzzing around very low and the daft thing is...no one bats an eyelid or even casts a glance up at them.
"Not them noisey things again" you heard from the passers by.

I'm sure there are lots of plane buffs who would love to see them but I'm afraid, around here they're more of an annoyance than an attraction.

Is there anything round your parts which has lost it's wow appeal?

We are spoilt for that sort of thing around Lincolnshire. Red Arrows fly over regularly and there is hardly a weekend when I do not see the Battle of Britain flight going over in the Summer. Used to be the same with the Tornados and Harriers at Cottesmore, when I first moved to the area they were something to look at, then the noise become an annoyance then after a couple of years you just stop noticing them.

Fireworks!

They're always setting them off in Edinburgh. If its not new year it's Beltane or the festival or mela or guy fawkes or half a dozen other sorry excuses. Totally bored with them now....

Yep.

Woodhall Spa is awesome for that sort of thing. You get the Spitfire and Bombers at least once a day during the summer.

Chinooks. I live about 20 miles from Odiham which IIRC is their main base. I actually live right next door to Greenham Common, which until very recently, the RAF used to train their "drop to 10 feet" type training exercises. apparently the dog walkers complained about being swooped on by Chinooks! cant see what the problem is! but good god, they are load when they are on night time training flights!

one of the most unpleasant forms of transport known to man

Having a minute's silence before an International Football match. "Someone on the FA Committee's uncle's dog died four years ago today - minute silence please"

nah that honour goes to hercs... horrible noisy things and uncomfortable as hell on a 4hr flight!

Payday for me or should I say the day after. For not even 24hrs I feel like I am loaded then overnight my account gets robbed and I am skint again :(

South Leeds Gc, it was crap last year and cannot see it improving this year as it is run by a board with some total idiots.

The novelty of helicopters flying just over our house at night. The windows rattle so loud that the cat goes berserk.:(

Practice for the Farnborough Airshow is a pain as well, though I do like to see the old planes flying over. The sound of a Lancaster is slightly chilling.

Fixed

Payday for me too...unless its being spent on something new and shiny.

agree with you G1BB0, hercs are horrendous. c17 isnt much better.

when i was last away the spectre gunship soon lost its wow factor, battering the range every night. luckily suffolk isnt too bad for aircraft.

someone mentioned the olympic park and i thought the same last time i was in westfield, barely recognisable now, just a load of scaffolding.
