After reading a few threads on how gloves just don't seem to be bas as good as before etc I thought I would start this thread - Is it my imagination or has the Footjoy brand got a bit poor?

The leather gloves seem to not last the same (though I am a GTX fan through and through)I have heard loads of folk say they used to be the market leader but not, well they seem to be just the same as most of the others.

And as for their shoes, well I have a pair of leaking Dryjoys - just over a year old, the last pair is 4 years old and still water tight even if the sole is about to fall off.

Hope it's just me being a little sceptical but I think the brand has made some lesser products of late. What do you all think?

PMSL, i love this thread.

Like you i always assumed and took footjoy as the market leader in shoes. So this year after starting back full time i say to my self " as soon as these £40 adidas cheapies are done, im getting footjoys".

the launch teh new FJ sport and by a strange happening that weekend my shoes split at tilgate forest (no i didnt cut them) so off to ebay and 24 hours later some nice new FJ sports arrive 20% cheaper than rrp with free delivery- BONUS!

5 rounds in and when i get my shoe back out the boot of the car i notice the toe is coming away. The dealer i purcahsed them from honours the shoes and replaces them within 48 hours, but when i email Footjoy you get the normal " we are the market leader.... bla bla bla, our quality checks should ensure this doesnt happen...bla bla bla" ye the weekend i noticed they had split alot of people had confirmed it was coming a bit of a common thing with FJ.

We all know why its happened, as the cost of materials and sponsorships goes up, they need to bring the cost down so either cut corners, or change the manufacturing plant to sub contractors and before you know it your buying the product because its cool, not because its quality. We see it all the time in Motocross.

One think i did notice was the first set i had come with a dark grey inner sole, the new ones come with a fancy disco pattern inner sole, so im not sure if there is a V2 on the FJ sports and thats why these are different.

I had a pair of FJ sports for a month, the white covering started to crack. I took them to my pro he said he would let the rep see them. Mine not being the only pair. The rep came about 4 weeks later and told our pro this was the 1st trouble they had, had with this model. I have got a new pair now(replaced) A years waranty so I will be keeping a close eye on them.......

I have to totally agree with all of the above but since its my 1st proper pair of shoes all i can say is that i wont be buying them again......I bought the SynerG's just out at the time and i have to say they were a waste of 165€.
They creased very badly and the paint started to come off at the cracks.....I think i may go for nike or adidas next for a change......
As for the gloves. I get maybe 6 rounds out of one and it needs a change....

A well known leather and Gore-Tex yachting (and country) boot manufacter also had 'quality issues' a few years ago after some 'changes' were made. The soles came away from the uppers and they leaked. Again, as each pair went back, we got the same, high quality checks etc, and that they'd not come across this problem before message. Strange considering that we sent quite a few back.

In these cost concious times, manufacters are having to look very hard at the cost of materials and the time it takes to make each item. Sadly the quality of the goods goes south, and consequently the reputation does as well (Toyota and iPhone4 anyone!). It hits the 'quality' brands like Footjoy hardest of all, especially as the brand and reputation is built on good old fashioned quality. And when that goes, so does the once very loyal customer base.

Lets hope that if there is an issue that it's only a short term problem. If it's not, it'll be a very hard climb to get that reputation back.

I guess the 'signed' Pros that wear these shoes never wear them long enough to notice. So they're no good for product testing. They also tend to play on incredibly manicured courses, in the dry, and rarely have to trounce through deep sodden rough to find their ball.

I have to agree. I was sorely disappointed with my Synr-Gs from FJ. I have had them maybe 6 months and have found that the inners round the heel and the insole itself have practically disintegrated and the soles are starting to separate from the uppers.

I'm going to try someone else next, maybe a set of AdiPures or some Eccos or something?

I have 11 pairs of FJ's and not had a single problem with any of them. I've never had a single issue with any FJ shoes over the years and the dryjoys I use for the range are 10 years old and only just started splitting over the winter. FJ gloves are the same. Never had a problem

Adidas shoes on the other hand are a mess. Sizing that is totally out of step with anything else. I'm an 8 all day long so why do I suddenly need a 9 1/2 adidas golf shoe. Even their football boots use to fit me in an 8. Add in the fact that they take months to break in (FJ straight out of the box everytime) and my adidas leaked after 9 rounds. The replacments split at the toe after two rounds so I got my money bsck.

The point is given the number of units sold, there are always going to to be rogued batches, production faults etc. It happens. I've had TM and Cally carry bags give up on me. Again it happens. Its a right royal pain when it does but in most cases the customer service has been at worse adequate and at its best exceptional. As long as the fault is fixed and I'm not out of pocket I'm not overly fussed

What can I say Imelda :D :D

I assume that you have 1 pair for each of the 4 seasons with a backup pair for each of them. That makes 8 pairs.

wtf are the other 3 pairs for?? Different seasons on the range perchance :p :p

I sent my Myjoy techs back as they were leaking within a few months, the replacement pair are a lot better but didn't last long looking new.

My Icons are pretty comfortable but the finish isn't too hard wearing and the back of the inner has worn away with not too much use. Footjoy want money to fix it when they are 6 months old. I have two other pairs so its not over use and they are Yellow/Plum Patent/Peal Lizard Skin so it's not like they go with every outfit!

I have alway used footjoy but may possibly be looking elsewear next time as I have noticed a recent dip in quality.
