Went for a quick evening knock tonight as the nights are drawing in now.
Joined three other chaps, one I’ve played with before a few times and the other two I’d not played with before. We played 4BBB.

Drove okay on the first but down the left and under a tree so all I could do was chip out onto the fairway. Left me with a 6 iron to lay up short of a pond, I wasn’t trying to push it or anything but shanked it horribly OB. Dropped another and did exactly the same thing! Walked across and found one of the balls and just dropped it to play out the hole without scoring, took my 4 iron and shanked it horribly OB! And I was supposed to be the better golfer in the group... Gave up on the hole after that.
Second, with only one thing on my mind, I somehow managed to find the green, only to three putt.
Third, good drive in the middle of the fairway, left me a wedge to the green, shanked it OB! Dropped another ball and did exactly the same thing again! Gave up on the hole with my mind in tatters, I couldn’t understand why I was doing it?
Played woods as much as I could after that, didn't shank any more irons but I was hitting them dreadfully, until the tenth tee when I finally twigged where I was going wrong. I’d been taking my club back on too steep a plane and coming down on the wrong line, from then on I swung on a flatter plane and it all felt good again, phew, nightmare over. (I hope!)

Hope you've cracked the problem. I had 3 months last year shanking every club from 5 iron to sand wedge, including the beloved chipper. It came, it stayed, then it went. I have not the faintest idea why it went.

The most destructive shot in golf.
Played on saturday and a couple of my playing partners did it,luckily they both got out of it quickly.
Well done for perservering.

I and I know not why, do this at the approach shot to the same hole, every round!!

Never even in my thoughts at any other hole ... maybe there is a clue in those last few words!
