Sorry to all Jocks, Taffs, Paddys etc etc this is unashamedly bias towards English Golfers.

The latest World Rankings show an impressive 4 Englishmen in the top 20.
Casey
Westwood
Poulter
Fisher

This is great as I can remember 10 or so years ago when there were no Englishmen in the top 100. Today there are 11.

Well done Guys

Just be happy that we let you monkey hangers play the game, we could take it off you at any time. ;)

I believe that the term "Monkey Hangers" refers only to residents of Hartlepool, a small northeast town .

Just call me Mr Pedantic

See Wales played well the other day tee hee

No come back on this one from us Scots, Monty is washed up and Messrs Gallacher, Forsyth, Coltart etc aren't really setting the golfing world alight to put it mildly.
The lad Martin Laird is a hopeful for us as is Richie Ramsay, both seem like a decent prospects. Trouble is we dont see Laird as he's based on the US tour.
The game at amateur level is very healthy so hopefully one or two will emerge soon.

The big question is though will any of these Engerlish players win a Major......answer sadly will be no.....maybe a certain kid from NI may do the major thing but apart from him the only guy from the British Isles likely to capture a major in the future is a certain fella who already holds 3. :(

Sad as I am to admit it Dodger but you're probably right.
But all 4 have shown they can hang it with the big boys, they've all won or come close in some bigger events recently so you never know.

Looking at the wider question regarding the state of the english game.

A sports future is governed by the quality and number of young people coming into it. I would say that Golf is quite healthy in that respect

On the other hand,In my area I am constantly surprised by the number of courses that are available and still being built

On the top of my head, I counted 17 courses within a 1/2 hour drive of home and a new one being built and im sure I have left a couple out.

I am presuming that the law of "Supply and Demand" is at work here, is there there demand to meet the supply?

My point being that some of these clubs are not particularly healthy financially.

I wouldnt be surprised to see 2 or 3 fold over the next 18 / 24 months

So just maybe it isnt quite so rosey in the garden?

Westwood still has the potential in my mind to crack a major. He's knocked on the door now and so knows what's involved and but for chasing (mistakenly we know) a birdie at the Open would have made the play off. One bad shot under pressure in the US Open cost him a playoff place and to be honest I think he'd have thrashed an injured Woods and Mediate.

Sadly I think Poulter is only a legend in his own mind and the others (Casey, Fisher, Dougherty etc) aren't good enough. I think McIlroy has at least one (multi majors is not a given and only Harrington in recent times has managed it from Europe) in the locker but then again he has time on his side. An intersting topic but a worry for the Scots and Welsh at the moment as there isn't anyone coming through

Its being built near chorleywood

Customer of mine is the Parish Council Planning Bod, so is well up on it

Due to open in about 12/18 months

Im now upgraded from Journeyman to Member

Yippee

I have such a warm sense of belonging

I agree Fisher looks good for a major.

Unfortunately i disagree with Westwood and feel he'll go down the Monty route, he's been too long with the 'no majors' monkey on his back. And i don't believe his short game is good enough to win a major, he chips worse than my missus.......and she doesn't play!!!!!

I don't think either one will win. Westie has had a few chances and some bad luck, and I don't even see Fisher in the same league.

Yeah, but we are looking at potential. Westwood can only really get worse, where as I believe Fisher will get better. Antone in the top 20 (and many journeymen outside it too) can win a major, and it is only a matter of time before one of ours lucks out (much as a few yanks have recently). To me, it is more likely to be Fisher than Westwood, although it would not suprise me to see Poults do it. He is the sort of annoying prat who would. He does have the ego, and also the ability to do it when playing at his best.

yep, fisher will win a major before any of the others i think. i also wonder if mcilroy will become the irish version of Sergio and struggle to claim a major...

hope he proves my wondering wrong!
