Not sure whether to laugh or cry :D:confused:

First board comp of the season today and a lovely day for it. I started off pretty solid and did the front nine in 42 so was reasonably pleased despite letting a couple of slack shots get away.

I then proceeded to triple bogey the tenth by hitting my tee shot into the trees and hitting the last branch when hitting the ball out and it went downhill from there on that hole and ended with 7. I hit bogey on 11 & 12 which i usually do better than but while id had a nightmare on 10 i let myself off to try and consolidate etc. I then double bogeyed the 13th after topping a hybrid behind a tree

Here comes the whopper  I then get to our par 3 14th hole in reasonable shape despite making a tool of myself on the holes previous. Reasonable shape that is until i chopped a ball into the clag and lost it, reloaded and hit trees on the other side. Duffed a chip into the face of a bunker. Managed to get it out but over the green and walked off with a big fat 8.

Managed to laugh it off and parred 15, 16 & 17 and bogeyed the 18th to end with a nett 72. Everybody is saying well played but i feel like ive just been mugged.

Have a beer, it should help

I know the feeling I was 14 over going in to the last hole, all I needed was a par to get a full shot handicap cut.....boom took a 9 finished +18 and not a cut in sight. Still we learn and it was my first ever comp :(

I feel your pain mate. Hit the turn today in +3 gross with a lip out eagle and plenty of birdie chances, then managed to drop an astonishing 16 (yes Sixteen) shots on the back 9... I've never come as close to lobbing the entire bag in the Canal in my life.

I can only put it down to tiredness after working last night and getting out of bed early to play.. Oh well, back to 12 it is then...

something similar here today. 2 over front, 10 over back :) /

Did your playing partner turn to you on the 10th tee and say "You're tearing it up mate, this comps yours for the taking?". How there isnt a Mizuno 7 iron sticking out of his cranium right now is beyond me...

it was Liverbirdie. tbf we were both playing some good stuff. few nice putts to half holes etc. i went into a bunker shortsided on the 12th, a par3 and went flying over the green with my 2nd shot. the first of 4 doubles on the back 9. it was only 2nd round at my new club since joining on friday. still alot to learn about the place.

spent a good hour in the practice bunker after. happy that progress has been made. :)

Funnily enough on the 10th tee yesterday i had the old your playing well quip. I just gave him the death stare and proceeded to slam one into the trees

Are you getting ideas mate? If Scouser turns to me on the 10th at Lymm and says "You've got me beat mate, I may as well walk in...", I'll know it was you coaching him...:D

It was a cracking match actually with Gary In Derry. I was giving him 3 shots in a matchplay.

After 2 - me 2 up

After 5 - me 1 down

After 6 - me 2 down

we halved the next 6

after 13 - me 1 down

after 14 - me 2 down again

I won the next 3, and needed a 4 footer to halve the last for a win. Gary had a great front 9 (3 over) I had a good back 9 (3 over), our better ball score would have been 2 over gross.

I can see lots of good matches between us in the future.

Missing out on your second ace by 18"!

Firm gap wedge from the tee into a par 3. I knew it was close the second I hit it. Flight went straight at the flag stick.

Pitched about 18" short, one bounce and stopped about 4ft behind the pin.

Made the putt for a 2 but would have preferred the ace :D
