Is there a way i can guarantee a tee time on the old course ?? im going to falkirk for 4 days in august so at some point will be taking a drive over to see if i can get on , ive read something about a ballot system, anybody else been able to get on ?? if so how??? thanks, going up with the family so il be on my jack , anybody,s welcome to join me

thanks for the tip just sent a pm, looks like an early start and fingers crossed il get on

How does that work then? I'm going to Edinburgh in august and four of us were thinking of going to St Andrews, but informed that we have to apply for a ballot the day before with no guarantees of a tee slot.

As an alternative, anyone played the Castle course, or Fairmont St Andrews

Havent played Fairmont but I absolutely loved The Castle Course. It definitely divides opinions hugely though. You either love it or hate it. A lot of people say that the greens are too "tricked up" as they have lots of humps and bumps on them and many of them are multi-tiered. They are very difficult to be honest and unlike anything I'd seen before but for me that added to the fun of the day.

The course is very difficult but its also absolutely stunning and has some of the best holes I've ever played on it, with the beautiful and treachorous par 3 17th particularly springing to mind.
