the need to read

Try this author Robert Galbraith, (its really JK Rowling)
good readable private detective novels.
So much better than the TV adaptations.
Jack Reacher novels are eminently readable too.

I'm working my way through the Tom Thorne detective books by Mark Billingham. Very good.

As with most long running series they get a bit samey after a while. Thought the latest was not great.

I'd always recommend the Rebus series by Ian Rankin, a class above just about everything else IMHO.

If you want to immerse yourself in book then read The Power of The Dog and The Cartel (in that order) by Don Winslow.

Sprawling epic fictional books about Mexican drug cartels and the police trying to bring them down. They are not short books and not for the feignt hearted but boy are they good.

Also read The Intrusions by Stav Sherez recently, highly recommended. And really enjoy the Harry Hole books by Jo Nesbo.

I've just finished book 5 so they are still strong but what you say is almost inevitable if you write enough books. Thanks for the tip over Rebus

I like a good detective novel

IMO the Rebus series is a must read then.
I'm jealous as I wish I was only just discovering them so I could read them all from scratch!

Harry Bosch series by Michael Connelly are more than worthy of a read...

Agree, I like both the Bosch and Haller series, quite an easy and enjoyable read.

James Patterson's Alex Cross series
Read a couple of these but never really got into them, preferred Michael Connelly

I like Wilbur Smith and Clive Cussler novels.

Used to enjoy Wilbur Smith but found them samey after a while so haven't read any for a few years, might give them another go. Preferred him to Clive Cussler

Have you tried the Millenium Trilogy, the girl with the dragon tattoo etc?
They are good journalistic detective thrillers.
Definitely worth a read 👍

Any travel book by Bill Bryson, they are all very informative and highly amusing.
+1 for Bill Bryson for something different. Reminds me to pick one up as haven't read any for a fair while 👍

I like Wilbur Smith and Clive Cussler novels.

I used to a big fan of Wilbur Smith books until he got old and used to take nearly a chapter to say what he said in a few pages in his younger years.
Fast paced and exciting stopped being a big part of the books.

Anybody who has not read any of his books I would start with Wild Justice.

Vala McDermid is writer I would recommend if you like crime series.

She is the author of the Wire in the Blood TV series with Robson Green

I’m reading the 4th Protocol at the moment.
Really enjoying it.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Apparently there is a twist coming at the end. Can't wait.

No you're fine. Page 22 he got rat-arsed on six pints of Stella Tortoise, went to bed with a hangover and then demolished a full English breakfast on Page 23. Now he's off to play 18 holes with Fragger.

Definitely not vegan if he’s about to eat Fragger alive!
