The mixed grill

Regarding steak, is it plain or with a sauce of somekind? IF the steak is of high quality and cooked to perfection then definately no sauce for me BUT sadly a peppercorn sauce is sometimes a must to make it edible at times.

As a proud carnivore i like nothing better than a good mixed grill when having a pub meal but it seems increasingly impossible for any pub to do your steak anything but "well done".
I always ask for it medium rare but i really don`t know why they bother even asking because your getting it cooked to with an inch of its life no matter what you ask for. Can`t remember the last pub that did as i asked even after sending it back. I just give up now.

On a side note what is the perfect mixed grill combo because i have seen all sorts served up as a mixed grill. For me it has to be;
Steak,Gammo,Pork chop,Lamb chop,Sausage,Egg, onion rings and chips. Now thats a mixed grill!!

No mushroome?

BTW Moon Pig, why are you a "proud" carnivore(you're an omnivore)? I'm a vegetarian but not political about it. When people find I'm veggie they usually get really defensive and say things like: "But I bet those shoes are leather...etc.".
Why is this? I have never once challenged anyone's dietary beliefs. I have turned 5 people veggie by example though.....

To my mind, if god hadn't meant us to eat animals then why did he make them nice and meat flavoured? :D

Ballybofey and Stranorlar golf club does a nice steak. I like mine rare and they did it perfectly. If I had one thing to say about it was that it could have been seasoned better but hey it was still tasty.

I'd avoid steak on the specials menu at the Atlantis bar and grill in Portrush. My jaw still hurts from chewing on that.

You know, you hit the nail right on the head there. I was wrong. I'm going to have a bacon sandwich first thing in the morning. :cool: :cool: :cool: :cool:

I agree that it's hard to find places that serve a good steak here. I like mine rare (so rare a good vet could bring them back) but find most places overcook them. I think they don't have the pan/grill hot enough so it tends to cook through before the outside looks ready. When I cook them at home, I let the pan sit on the hob for a good 10 mins before I add the oil then add the ribeye steak for 1 min per side.

The steakhouse near us can manage a rare steak but they ruin it by covering it with too much salt.
The best steak I've ever had was a large fillet steak at a pub in Hereforshire. Cremated on the outside, rare on the inside with a chunk of mature stilton melted on top. Pure heaven.

If we were meant to be vegetarian then we should all have hooves. Mind you, the ex mother-in-law was a cow and she still ate meat.

You’ll struggle to get a decent cooked steak in the UK. I work with a load of French people who won't eat steak over here because of the way it is cremated.

It's interesting this - there must be some new law in France that says restaurants must declare (on a Bloackboard) the origin of their steaks. We ate in quite a few nice restaurants this summer in France and were astonished at how many were sourcing tehir steak cuts from UK.
