Went out for a few holes with my son last night, for the first time this year.
In actual fact, he hardly played last year either, with all the usual distractions for a 15yr old, Mountain Biking, GCSE's, Squash, Gym, not to mention girls & parties etc.

Since he picked up a club a few summers ago, he's naturally struggled for distance compared to me, or indeed some of his mates, who have always been bigger/taller etc.
However, he's now nearly 17, wiry but strong, and nearly 6'.

As we get our clubs out of the garage, I pass him my Titleist 905R Driver, 9.5*, and tell him he can try it if he wants, as I havent been getting on with it recently. Naturally, in the bag it goes.

So, standing on the tee, I get a decent drive away, and then watch as he absolutely nails the 905 too, to sit in the middle of the fairway adjacent to one of my best ! First swing with it !!
A 7iron the green, and he's a happy bunny.

We only played 6 holes, and whilst he was a little erratic, -only to be expected with the little golf he's played, I get the feeling that with a little effort, his current 27 H/C could tumble this year.

Highlight of the night was his Par on our 11th, a 440yd Par4, which he hit with another superb Drive, and a 5iron.

Watching your kids start to come into their own is a sweet thing indeed. :D

Great to hear.

My boy is five but enjoys going to the range on occassions. Bought the smallest clubs available (driver, 5i, 7i, 9/P) last year, still a tad long for him but he has the right idea.

I love the look on his face when he hits it well, (best is about 20yards so far).

I'm hoping he continues to enjoy it as he grows up.

My son has never taken to golf, although plays with me now and again when he's not doing mad shifts at work. My grandson, who is seven, thinks golf is a stupid game and prefers to play football. Whilst he keeps picking up man of the bloomin' match nearly every week, I am not going to be able to chance his mind on that either. Aaaaarrrrrgggghhhhhh!!!!!

Nice post Chris,

My Lads nearly 6 and has his own set of junior clubs, hes only been chipping up and down the garden but hes chomping at the bit to come with me to the range.

Problem is they are just a touch to big for him at the mo, but worst of all they feel great for me... !!
Make take them along to the course this Sunday instead of my own.. Ha ha ha
Cheers
Jamie :D
