It’s well worth the trip. The Open was £100 for 3 rounds. Absolute bargain

Stunning place, I had my camera with me during the Friday practice round but conditions were less spectacular. It was a pretty windy event. For the comp itself I had a nice-for-me score going until the 18th hole where I lost two balls off the tee and walked off with a 10 to nice cheers on the balcony from a bunch of morons who thought I’d chipped in for a birdie.

What was the condition like, a couple of guys I know who are members were there a couple of weeks ago and said it was in poor shape and they had 4 winter greens in play

What was the condition like, a couple of guys I know who are members were there a couple of weeks ago and said it was in poor shape and they had 4 winter greens in play

Condition was really good, winter greens would have been in play because four greens have been relaid and were in play for the first time in the open, they’re not in general play yet. It’s obvious that the weather has certainly been better on the west coast, they are further ahead in growth over there compared to here on the east coast. The only complaints from local members I’d heard were that the wind direction has been unusual, being easterly for a long period of time and that has been making the course harder.

I played in the same event last year and condition-wise this year it was much better. The only criticism I’d say about condition is that pace of the greens was mixed but half the time that may have been the wind.
