Hi,

I was lucky enough to win the first prize in a raffle on Monday night and it is for a 4 ball at the K Club. Has anyone played there? Which course should I choose to go to? The Ryder Cup or Smurfit?

Many thanks.

I really liked the Ryder Cup course when I played it. Some great holes on the front 9 where the Liffey comes into play and the 17th is a cracking hole!

Didn't play the Smurfit, but sure it's good.

Congrats, and if you're thinking of staying over (assuming the raffle doesn't cover accommodation) then I'd suggest The Westgrove hotel in Clane. Good value, very comfortable, and about 10 minutes drive from the K Club. Not a bad village too, and you've got City West, Carton House, Millicent, Naas and The PGA courses within 20 minutes drive. Plus a course called Rathsallagh a little further on that is brilliant!

Thanks for that Bratty. We will certainly stay over and play a couple of other courses whilst threre. I will check out your suggestions.

Havent played either in a couple of years now mate but by all accounts off guys who played it earlier this year then mayb play the Ryder Cup course, both nice courses , as bratty said you are spoiled for courses around about , the formerly known PGA is now called palmerstown gc, beautiful track , stack of decent ordinary courses within a couple of miles of it aswell , you could stay in clane or in Naas itself , Osprey Hotel (expensive side) or lawlors would be the best in Naas but there are a couple of other cheap n cheerful ones aswell . If you coming over & need advice on the area dont hesitate to ask as i only live down the road & work part time in a pub in naas at the weekend, for nightlife Naas would be a better option . If ye driving or hiring a car the Heritage 30min drive is savage course..

The Ryder cup course is by far the best but both worth playing, u should go as a 2 ball and play both. As the guys say loads of great parkland courses around there and most great value. Keep a eye out for overnight specials in carton house 2 good courses there as well or if u fancy a bit of links golf Portmarnock links do good overnight deals and the Kclub is only 40 mins from Dublin.

Amazingly I played The K Club before I joined GM,

Great place, I would choose the Ryder Cup course, as it is stunning and has some really interesting holes, also brings back memories from that great tournament. The Smurfit is also an excellent course with some really tough holes, the last few have several approaches over water and the 18th you have to decide how much of the water to take on.

Either way you'll have a great time.

Naas certainly more lively than Clane! My wife's from Sallins, so I know both pretty well.
Are you a member anywhere local, Bladeplayer?
