Morning golfers,

My interest in politics goes as far as watching The West Wing on DVD...

I'm interested to know (if you're willing to share) who you will be voting for next year.

Simply vote or post a response with a reason.

At the minute I am in the 'not voting' camp, I don't trust any of the politicians and even if one of them come up with a good idea the other party will try and knock it down because they didn't come up for it.

What I am basically saying is convince me who to vote for!!!

You should always vote. The one thing you can be sure of is that one party will win, so not taking part just makes it easier for others to decide on your behalf.

Choose the least worst option. Or vote for the party most likely to block the party you dislike the most.

If all the apathetic got together, they could be a major political force.

I am keen to vote, if I don't then I have no right to complain.

Just got no idea which way to go.

I neither like or dislike any of them!

I was hoping people would put arguments up here about the parties to help me!!!

I will give you a clue:

One party is going to really screw up, and then tax the heck out of you to pay for it, such that your grand childrens children will still be in debt.

Which party?

Could be any of them.

If the majority didn't vote one or another would get in on a minority - so no change there.

If all votes were counted then if the majority overwrote the ballot paper they should have to try again with a new set of candidates (all costs to come from party not public funds),

Vote 'None of the Above'.

I really have no idea just now.

Sadly, I can't see how any party can fix the mess we're in.....perhaps if Labour hadn't given up real social politics there would be a real choice. I'm bang in the middle of the poor/rich divide (I'm neither) and couldn't say which party is most likely to have policies that protect those less fortunate whilst keeping the middle-income crowd safe from extra tax or stealth living costs.

Just don't get me started on politiks

Lots of different views can be made on the same points. e.g. :-

You can't complain if you don't vote.
Do you really want to be one of those responsible for voting them in?

Labour will do this, Conservatives will do that, Libdems will do something else.
They are all restricted by what they can/can't do subject to prevailing conditions, what the Civil Service tell them to do, what Brussels tell them to do. They are only mouthpieces after all.

They are all self serving, two faced, lying, parasites.
Can't find an opposing view on that.

Yes. We should have some system where there is a "none of the above parties are worthy of my vote" where, if the number of people who vote for that is more than any candidate gets, then some other system kicks in (I haven't worked out quite what yet but I'm sure that together we could work something out - How about "The Golf Party" gets in).

How about all candidates should have worked for at least 10 years (say) in the real outside world before putting themselves up for election, and they should only be able to serve no more than two terms in office.

How about no ridiculously high index linked pension.

How about accountability.

How about serving us, the people they are meant to be representing, rather than helping themselves.

I told you not to get me started

OK I'm better now. Just coming down from the ceiling. What's that dear? A nice cup of tea. That would be grand. Ahhh. That's better. :) :)

How about all candidates should have worked for at least 10 years (say) in the real outside world before putting themselves up for election, and they should only be able to serve no more than two terms in office.

to develop this further; all candidates must live and/or work in the constituency they propose to represent for a specified period;

local elections; 2 years
national; 5 years

How about serving us, the people they are meant to be representing, rather than helping themselves.

ALL politicians lie. the first is that we (the mugs) are electing them (*expletive of choice*) to represent us; their order of 'representation' is:

1 - party or themselves
2 - themselves or party
3 - biggest cheque book
4 - any foreign interest
5 - any private interest
6 - any other mp's interest
7 - a constituent(if they can get a newspaper interested)

oh, and can anyone point me to a definition of democracy that includes the word (or suitable facsimile thereof) 'party'.

I know what a dictatorship is, I know what an autocracy is, I know what a bureaucracy is, I know what a democracy is supposed to be, and what we got ain't it!
