I had a great round today after shooting 91 last week at my old home course. Today I played Weston Park, Im hoping to join there soon so thought i'd better get a round in first. I shot 84 (out-44, in-40) and felt great all the way round, this might have something to do with the course being absolutely astounding, every hole is pretty as a picture with some great challenges along the way that kept me on my toes.
I still gave away a few shots around the greens but was still better than usual, I was driving well and the iron shots improved on last week. I had 2 3 putts, 1 was on a par 5 and I was on for 2 otherwise putted well. The only dissapointment was a silly 6 on a par 3, other than that I was only 1 over for the second half.
So im definately joining as soon as im sure I can afford it, the missus says she wants a new washing mashine first, LOL, surely a cheap one will do. If I carry on like I played today, im sure breaking 80 next season isn't out of reach. I wouldn't have said that last week...the difference a week makes

Hey mate glad to hear you enjoyed my course today , its not in as good condition as earlier in the year but still very good tbh. We played a pairs comp round there yesterday and the greens were a little soft but putted not bad overall.

84 is a good score round there if you havnt played it before and 40 for the back 9 is very proficient.

I bet you got that triple on the 11th didnt you ??

Well done. As a fellow Nofolkier (is that a word?) I have only heard good things about Weston Park and hope to pop over for a round soon. Perhaps the Norfolk Section of this forum can arrange a game at some point..?

Yeah thats the one, I hit a good (well struck) tee shot but it went 10 yards left of the green behind some trees and I duffed the chip of a bare lie then thinned one through the green and 3 putts from 40 ft or so :(
I'll par it next time though.

I'd be up for that, im sure my brother would be keen to play to, he has joined the forum but is yet to post anything yet (lurking in the shadows), but were usually free at weekends.

JD- Whats your favourite hole at Weston? It's hard to choose for me but I liked the 15th (may have been 14) with the undulating fairway, gulley on the right and big sleepered bunkers around the green. I may be confusing the 2 holes (terrible memory) but the inward 4 or 5 are especially good.

I'm sure the wife would happily take your smalls to the laundrette for you as the marriage licence (section 27, sub section 4 paragraph 3) is quite clear about golf and club membership being deemed a domestic necessity.

It sounds like you played the course well and that its in good nick still. I hope you enjoy your new home

The 11th is SI 4 or 5 I think ?? and is 220 off whites with only that narrow path to hit through. Tough hole at best of times but it usually has side wind too.

The 14th has big sleepered bunkers around the right and back of it (SI 1) and the 15th is the blindish tee shot with the sneaky bunker in the fairway over the brow of the ridge.

Youre right about the 5 finishing holes , I cant think of 5 harder/better holes anywhere in Norfolk to finish a round.

My favourite hole is either the 4th or 6th (both par 5's). I hate the 17th with a vengeance though , its killed most of my rounds this year and is becoming a real pain the a**e :D

I dont play many weekends unless theres a comp going on. I work shifts so play once or twice in the week and maybe a comp at weekend. Although I only have winter pairs to play from now on and the occasional medal if i'm off work , I'll probs play twice a month friendly golf on sats or suns tbh

If i've got a free day then i'm well up for meeting and having a round before it gets too cold and wet/frosty etc

Yes I did like the par 5's too, I hit a lovely shot on the 17th but over clubbed by 1, I hit an 8 as the pin was at the back, I went about a yard too far and landed it on the fringe so it ran through and down the slope. I think if it had landed on the green it would have held and spun back a bit Never mind.
Just let us know when you're free for a round.

Looking back at my card i can see i got mixed up again, 17th is a par 4 isn't it (16th is the par 3) Oops.
I enjoyed th 17th too, big dogleg left though, I hit a very flukey tee shot.

If you hit 8 iron into 16 then they must have moved the tees back to the yellows. That must be 35 yards forward of the whites and it makes the hole a whole lot easier threw the winter ( thankfully ) ;)
