Our Saturday medal playing off 17.1 feeling confident Par'd the first two holes and then a run of net pars a and then three more pars to finsh on 9 with a scratch 40 (par 36)

10th is my bogey hole but an up and down for par put that one to bed.
by the time i was at th 12th tee i was -8 for my handicap and still only 4 over par scratch.

It was at that point i realised that i had just had a par at the last 4 holes, and had a huge fight on my hands with the mental side to keep in the game and not blow it.

I had a putt for par at each of the remaining 6 holes sinking one and leaving every other one literally either on the rim or lipping out.

I came in with a scratch 80 which is 3 strokes better than any medal score i have had previously, the galling thing is i miscounted on the last thinking that i had to hole my 10 footer for a scratch 80, it wasnt until i came off that my playing partner told me it was for a 79 and i was gutted.

Have to say the two guys i was playing with new i was scoring and didnt crack on which helped.

Thats two of my goals for the season accomplished where i wanted to win a medal and get down to 15.

New target is 13 now.

Third goal was to break 80 and was so agonisingly close.

Heres to next week :)

That's a great round with lots of positives, Congrats on the win and cut. Bit of a pity about the sub 80 but save it for the next comp and win back to back.

now that would be good and im also sure would invoke the old rule 19 clause for being a cheating beggar :)

and i would get lynched by the sweep.

Still, ultimately i would love to get to single figures (dont know ifi could though) but would be superb and i suppose this is a step in the right direction.

Tough not to get carried away and think about the score and personal bests but important to try and play one shot at a time. The more you get into these positions the more you can focus on doing so. Rotella makes the point over and over in his books. Either way it is a great performance and I can't see why you can't meet the new target with ease

Thanks I hope your optimism rubs off.
Funny you should mention rotella, All I could think about was picking the smallest target, seeing the shot in myths and hitting it coming through the last 5 holes.

Helped that I stuck to my pre shot routine.

Pre shot routine is a major plus and sticking to it down the stretch helps keep calm, and playing the way you have been.
No reason why you can't attain single figures very close with that round? And you are looking back thinking you've left some out there.
I made single figures a couple of years back (before wife and child) moving from 16 to 7.8 in 2 seasons so stick with it enjoy and believe.
