The correct way to repair a pitch mark

Why is it that the members who usually moan about the quality of the greens are the ones who never repair their pitch marks? stop being lazy sods repair them! it takes 10 seconds. if everyone repaired 2 extra per round you would be free of them for ever within 2 weeks and you would make the green keepers lives a lot easier, allowing them to get on with more time consuming tasks such as bunkers and tee preparation.

When I repair my pitchmarks, I always try and repair one more on that green. If everyone done that we wouldn't have a problem.

I am still amused by the number of guys who think you can repair a pitch mark by bashing it with a putter.

If the green is soft, then you can repair a mark as well if not better by using the heel of the putter to knock in around the pitchmark then tap it all flat.

Any "compacting" that this does will be sorted when your greenkeepers do their normal maintenance.

I saw Gary Player demonstrate this method in one of those "playing with the pros" programmes on The Golf Channel (when we briefly had it)

I play there sometimes!

and now, some dodgy geezer who I expected to be a well-known footballer is leaving one of the pitch marks wrongly repaired for ever.

someone tell me he sorted the wrong one out.... :o
