The correct way to play a hybrid

I see them as a Hybrid!!! Halfway between an iron and a fairway wood, they have a wider sole than an iron but narrower that a wood so they need playing using a style between the two. The shaft is also shorter than a fairway wood.

For me the flatter sole is designed to slide and sweep but as it's narrower it also needs a slightly steeper swing, so play the ball just forward of centre.
