Being made to watch these by HID now that the matchplay has halted for the day and all I can say is they should be renamed to something that sounds like the Brit awards! Just change the first word for an expletive

What a load of garbage, half the acts on it I've never heard of and I love my music, the first band I'd heard of in the nominations was Muse & Mumford and sons. The first actual real artist they interviewed was Dave Groll and everyone prior to that was a teeny bopper.

As for the nominations for best album, if its done purely on the music and the impact it has and where the inspiration for it comes from then Plan B's Ill Manors should win for its narrative take on David Cameron's broken Britain

And now No direction are murdering classic Brit pop songs! The last time the Brits were any good we had Jarvis Cocker ruining Jackos set and blur were going all out against oasis to be king of Brit pop.

Right HID is off to bed so I can put something decent on and catch up on the final series of Spartacus

HID has it on upstairs. I've comandeered the main TV for the footie now golf is off. Got the Plan B album which was a stunning comment on urban Britain but I've lost interest in the UK music scene in general and acts like One Direction are everything that is wrong. Soulless songs by a manufactured act who can't sing without technological assistance

Also watching as snow stopped play and underwhelmed to say the least. Then again I start to sound more like my Dad as I say "who???" when many new artists are featured! As for One Direction I keep wondering when the one with the silly short trousers will ever sing a note. He obviously can't and also mimes pretty poorly which is amazing as he has to do that so often!

I didn't see them - and incidentally don't like them either - but I find it hard to believe that he can't sing when they came through a 'talent' show. They'd have got booted off (or at least he would) if he were really that bad.

I thought Muse were brilliant at the start of the show. Robbie Williams was 'ok' for a bloke that hasn't got a great singing voice because he is a fantastic performer, and the only other thing I liked was a little clip of one of the nominees called Jake Bugg (?) that sounded Oasis-ish and made me want to look out for his stuff.

I reckon when you start sounding like your dad it's time to stop commenting on music.

I watched it, it's rubbish, but then it always was rubbish, Sam Fox & Mick Fleetwood anyone ??

The best thing about the Brits was Jarvis Cocker & his stage invasion of Michael Jackson :D

I think the yoof now call themselves the "YOOT" as it sounds more street...

lot of one direction jealousy here :smirk:

I Have 2 tickets for their sell out concert at the O2 if anyone is interested

Thankfully HID wasn't bothered by it, after crappynation street, we watched "The Following" from sky+ last night. Absolutely awesome series thats on Sky Atlantic. Two big thumbs up from rooter on that one!!!

Brit awards and all these other ones, what a load of tosh.

James Corden was dreadful, poor adlibs that looked like he was reading them off autocue. Very uncomfortable to watch

Cordon is awful, I make a point of not watching anything that he 'stars' in.

One observation is that four generations of our family like Adelle, from 3 years to 88.
Can't think of too many artists who can span that age gap, early Tom Jones maybe?

The best moment involving James Corden was last year when that random guy walked infront of him whilst he was doing a piece to camera.

Have to say I can't stand Adelle I find her music severely depressing and all the same. But she has a massive following of all age ranges got to give her that

Each to his own. A League of their Own is easily one of the best panel shows on TV IMO.

I find all the hatred for modern day pop music amusing, mostly because I used to be one of the ones spouting it as well. Then I realised there’s no point in me moaning about it, because a.) it’s not going to go away and b.) it’s not affecting the music I enjoy listening to, so why waste my time worrying?

As has been pointed out, the Brits is fairly terrible, but there are plenty of decent music acts (manufactured or otherwise) about these days. There is, of course, a lot of terrible stuff as well, but this applies to every walk of music, even those who are “talented” and play/write their own music. It’s been that way forever. There’s always terrible music to balance out the good stuff.

The whole “they don’t write their own songs so they must be rubbish!” argument is ridiculous as well – Michael Jackson is considered the king of pop, but who wrote most of his successful hits? Quincy Jones.

Fact is, people like the stuff at the brits (heck, I even enjoy the odd-tune on radio 1, and this comes from a guy who listens to death metal), those bands who are terrible will fade into obscurity, and then there’s the ones who will stick around as their music matures and evolves naturally (Taylor Swift for example *drool*)… Don’t let it worry you, life is too short.

Sadly there are exceptions that slip through the cracks – after all the Rolling Stones still manage to sell albums somehow! :D
