So, as the title asks, you play regular golf with lots of people, what's the biggest single fault you see.

I played with two guys this past weekend and I'd say, for them, and most others it's trying to hit the ball too hard!

I'd agree with trying to hit it too hard. Probably causes a load of problems for people

May not be the biggest but I do notice how many people simply don't set up properly. Stiff arms, stiff legs, too upright, slouched, hands too high or too low, lined up wrong. They look like they will struggle to hit a good ball before they even swing.

Although their posture etc may vary, good players nearly always look like good players when they address the ball.

Depends on what you mean by 'fault'.

Swinging too hard could be described as an 'issue' and a slice a 'result'.

Most poor shots are slices but most really bad shots, discounting misses, duffs/foozles and tops, are hooks.

Apparent and fundamental causes of bad shots are many and varied, but in the vast majority, incorrect (or poorly timed) tension plays a huge role.

What I mean is, when I stand and watch people hitting shots, there is usually something in the swing that I could confidently say, if they corrected the fault/s they would be better players almost instantly

The two guys I played with at the weekend, for instance, both had very reasonable swings, made worse by their attempt to murder the ball

Golfers using Stack and Tilt?

Not sure I've really ever thought about other people's faults in any great detail.

For me, it's alignment, followed by poor rotation followed by losing tempo.

For others, I would say thinking they'll hit it like a pro when they haven't hit a ball or touched a club for 6 days.

true - but then again I'm playing Westerham tomorrow so it will be OK :)

I would say the biggest fault relates to under clubbing and swinging out of their control capabilities

Trying to be a hero. Most people I play with seem to think they have the escape powers of the pros and go for the holiwood shot after sticking one in the trees (which generaly means in the long stuff aswell). Rather than just getting the ball back in play then end up compounding the first mistake and adding another 2 or 3 to their score.

thanks for the offer ;)

as long as I make the 4 drivable par 4's I tend to score well there ...
No probs. If you can drive 1st, 2nd, 9th, 15th, then you'll definitely be on for a good score!

I hope the bunkers aren't too bad for you.

Has to be a slice. Whether that is caused by incorrect swing path or can be traced back further to poor address/alignment the result is still the same. The ball flies right and short and usually into the thick stuff. They then try harder, get more tense and the problem gets worse. Cue a repeating cycle
