The best way to travel to Twickenham

I have been told that getting to Twickenhan from Kent can be difficult for the England v Wales match. Has anyone an idea of the best way to plan this jouney? car, train etc??

I wish I could help but it's difficult from Cambs for sure and puts me off going. Last time we were desperately trying to park and the national anthems were on the car radio - frustrating to say the least.

If you plan to drive then get there in plenty of time as the atmosphere is great pre match. The best parking we found one year was about a mile from the stadium in an allotment! The allotment owners opened up space for cars and charged half as much as the official car parks. On the way back we bought some fresh produce and also got a quick get away as we'd walked (ok jogged) past most of the traffic. Not sure your hip could take that though!

I would suggest train/tube. Never had a problem when I've travelled there. It's obviously busy/cramped on the tubes but the police and stewards get you all shuffling efficiently in the right direction. Traffic around there on match days is horrendous unless you get there early. Plus it means you can have a bevvie or 3.

I would go on the train. Good atmosphere on the trains on the way in and a shame to miss out on the ample beer opportunities before, during and after the match.

we always used to drive round to Staines and get a direct train in from there. If youre looking to get a train into London then you can get a train out to Twickenham from Waterloo

Get to Waterloo and get the train. Done it a few times, sometimes takes a while to get a train back due to the queues.

Best thing to do is stay at Twickenham and have a couple of beers after the game and wait for the queues to go.

Not me mate, I have never played rugby in my life .................... maybe you've got something there!

My brother and wife went to the England/Ireland match there 3 (?) years ago. Traveled up from Thanet to town and then out to Twickers. Great atmosphere on the way up and at the game, and even better in the pub after the game where the Irish lads insisted on buying the drinks.

Banter (and canned Guinness) on the train on the way back to town made the day for them.

Forget the car, the day starts and ends on the train.

If your train goes via Clapham Junction, you can change there. Platform 5? Only 2 stops so standing shouldn't be too much of a problem.

Another vote for the train. From reading, they used to roll out the oldest trains you have seen, and go direct to twickers! The stench was horrible, stale beer and sick etc and that was on the way!

Is the cabbage patch still open? Great boozer for some pre match refreshments!

Train is well organised and the best option unless your mate takes you in his Range Rover and you go for a picnic in the members car park.
