It was on the 203 yard par 3 on my home course. Last year, weather really cold with a bit of wind. Took my driver as ball wasn't flying far and I'm not the biggest hitter. The drive landed in the bunker front right of green. In the middle sitting up nicely and about 25-30 yds from the flag. I struck the ball and immediately it felt good, it flew up in the air about 20-30 ft and straight in the hole without touching the sides, get in!!

What was unlucky about it? It was the Medal, and with all comps we have the two's, where everybody puts £2 in the pot and whoever gets a 2 takes the money.
This particular week the asst pro was late getting in and a couple of groups had already gone out, so the two's comp was cancelled! Just my luck!

The only other time I've managed a 2, so did 4 others.

Anyway, not too worried about the money as that shot will be lodged in my memory for ever.

I'll finish with, what's the best shot you ever played?

Too many to choose from over 30 years of golf. All were special at the time but I guess one of the most recent ones was in a tight match. I carved a huge sliced drive down our 12 but was so far right it actually shortened the hole. I had enough room from the trees running down the side of the fairway to lauch a hybrid and hit it perfectly onto the front of the green where it pitched and rolled to 3 foot. I duely converted for birdie net eagle. It proves that even after a crap drive a bit of imagination (and to be fair a career shot) can come up trumps.

Cheeky shot

I have holed from the trees with a low 4 iron which was nice but very lucky

Talking of these shots, played a quick 9 tonight with the girlfriend, she thinned her approach into the green and it SKIPPED on the water onto the green,2 putts for a par

Some people have all the luck

Yeah right, you too andititchie. You have a girlfriend - and she plays golf! The future bodes well for you my good man.

Ha ha, but life was never meant to be easy eh!

I usually say: There aint nothing I wouldn't do for my wife,
there aint nothing my wife wouldn't do for me, so we end up doing bugger all for each other!! :)

I'll finish with, what's the best shot you ever played?

My best (most memorable shot) has to be an EXTRAORDINARY hole in one.

I was playing golf with my brother (always a good time to hit an ace). We got to the 11th, a par 3. I tee'd up the ball when out of the trees behind the green my father appeared. I didn't know but my brother had told him we were playing and my dad had walked round several holes trying to find us, which in itself is quite sureal as he's a lazy bugger most of the time. :)

After waiting for him to join us on the tee I stepped up and holed a 6-iron (with a slight fade) 167 yards.

It's one thing getting a hole in one whilst playing golf with your brother, another thing to hit one when your father happens to be watching and even most bizarre when it's the FIRST shot your father has EVER seen you hit.

My dad freaked out - he even signed my card with the words "One in a million" which was probably true as I haven't had a hole in one since, or had him watch me play :)

They were the days :)

My best shot for a long while was last Saturday, was in a inter club scratch 4somes match and was having a rare old ding dong with our opponents. Had to minimum birdie a hole for a win which was a really tough school.

We got to the 12th 550yd par 5 slightly downhill. My partner hits a good one in the fairway which left me 252yd (by the evil SC5 ;)) and was chatting to partner whether to lay it up or not whilst the green cleared.

He said go for it so I called the shot to him, "wind off the left, at the end tree and let it fall over on the breeze" Struck it as planned and off it sailed. Partner said good shot and we walked after it. Got down to the green to see it nestled in behind the pin just over a foot for a gimme. :D

1) At Gillingham on the 5th par 5 I had hit a decent drive but ran into the left rough. Left myself 230 to the pin, should have chipped out but my ego took over and low & behold I absolutely creamed a 5w to within 2ft for my eagle. The handicap secretary, who my partner and I were playing against, was not chuffed as that put them 5 down, 5 played, and I was -1 off 28 at that point.

2) At Princes on the GM Day, On the final hole my 2nd had pushed into the deep stuff on the right, 50 yds from the green, really wanted to get up and down for a par, hit a cracker with my 60* that ended up 4ft from the hole for a very nervy putt.

3) Shot I hit on the last at Lydd, was under pressure to hit this as Homer was on the green and ideally placed to win the match. I was in the left rough, Hit a beautiful checking pitch with my 60* that stopped dead about 3ft from the hole.

They are my 3 faves.

Playing in our Saturday medal off the back sticks par 3 198yds into the wind and early morning sun. I hit a solid 5-wood which I thought was good but we couldn't see where it finished because of the sun. At the green we found my partners ball but no sign of mine. I then noticed a pitch mark about 18 inches from the pin so I walked over to the hole and there the little beauty was.
20 years playing golf....one hole-in-one and I didn't even see it!!

Playing at Cobble Hall, Leeds for the 1st time recently I was in the left rough about 60 yards short of the 16th (I think)

There was a tree not too far in front of me and I new if I hit my lob wedge perfect it would clear the tree and the pin was about the right distance, playing off 28 it is very rare the ball does exactly what I want.

I stuck the ball and it cleared the tree bropping just over the pin and stopping maybe 4 foot from the hole. Best shot of my life.

I was buzzing.

My playing partner was doubled over laughing. In the fading light I hadn't noticed the 'correct' pin on the other side of the shared green that I should have been going for...

The best shot i've ever played was on the 1st at Throston in Hartlepool. It is a fairly straight forward par 4, i played a 6 iron up the middle of the fairway and left myself about 140yds approach. I hit a 9 iron sweet as a nut, pitched about 2 yds before the hole, bounced once and dropped in for an eagle 2. To date my only ever eagle!!

The luckiest shot ive ever played was on the 2nd at Norton Golf Course which is a short par 3, about 90yds of water to the fringe and then the green, it was the middle of January a couple of years ago and about -5 degrees. I fluffed my tee shot with a wedge and it went about 3 miles up and not very far forward.....it came down with snow on, pitched on the downslope of the bank, pitched onto the ice and skipped along, rolled up the bank at speed the other side of the pond onto the fringe, pitched further forward onto the green and then rolled and stopped about 6 inches from the pin for my first ever birdie. It was like a scene from Happy Gilmore :D

On holiday at Newquay I was playing the links. I think it was the 15th.

Now at Newquay there's a path running across the course, so to protect the public they've built up a protective mound/barrier on all the holes that cros the path, about 7' high.

Anyway the 15th is a par 5. I didn't manage a great drive, but if I hit my perfect 5 wood, I could clear this mound, and would then have enough run left to get on the green ( height of summer obviously ). And a birdie would be very nice thank you.

I hit it perfick. A beautiful parameter just about to be the shot of the week, but alas, it fell about a yard short, and instead of clearing the mound, it hit the upslope, and bounced straight up in the air.

I knew there was some rough just the other side of the path, so I had to wait to see if I'd been caught up in that, ie potential bogey, or if I'd been lucky and reached the fairway.

With the shape of the bounce I wasn't hopeful.

I rounded the mound to be faced with one histerical female, and an unconcious bloke. My ball had gone so vertical, it hadn't even reached the rough and had fairly and squarely clonked this bloke on the noggin.

Help was fetched and the bloke was ok (ish). Obviously he crossed the course at his own peril so no comeback on me.

I didn't say it was me that was unlucky, did I ? The poor sod. :D

At least he had the good grace to head the ball back onto the fairway, a good few yards I'd never have carried without his help. I had a nice lie, and went to get an easy par.

I than' yoo.

Short shot which has stuck in my memory.

I had a chip/lob shot in front of me, about 20 feet. Problem was the bunker 2 feet in front of me, with only 5 or 6 feet between bunker and hole.

It was a friendly game so we were having a laugh, so, as there was barely any grass below my ball the "Garry Owen" style lob shot was tricky.

Therefore I played a pool type shot where I nominated where I was going to bounce the ball off the right lip of the bunker and let the ball bounce in toward the hole.

The ball then proceeded to drop in!

Counldn't have done it again in a hundred attempts.

My best shot is either my hole in one or my favourite drive ever on our 12th which is are supposedly out 2nd hardest hole took driver off the back tees and it flew the trees on teh right and bounced short of the green and rolled too 10 ft and i holed it for eagle :D :D

Holed my second shot at the 1st at Strathclyde Park, a 9 iron 155 yards (par 4) and I called the shot telling Wee Joe I wanted to land it on the high side of the green and let it roll down to the hole. It rolled down and dropped.
