Hi,

Played The Berkshire Red and Blue courses on Wednesday.

My apologies as I haven't got enough time for a detailed review but wanted to just say what fantastic courses they are.

It is only my 3rd visit there and I have to say, I am still learning the courses and getting my bearings. They are as good as anywhere else in the area and really worth a visit. First class golf in beautiful condition. If you have not played these courses, then you should try to. They are not cheap but represent fantastic value for money.

My only criticisms are that they serve up ruinous bought-in Yorkshire puddings - a schoolboy error that marrs an otherwise perfect lunch.

Secondly, I am not in favour of changing in to a jacket and tie for lunch when it is 26 degrees outside. I know rules are rules but this is a step too far.

Anyway, these minor issues aside, you should give these courses a try. Just lovely. And I nearly had a hole in one! 2 inches from the cup so an ace still eludes me........

Have to agree Snelly......only played there the once at last years AGS meet on both courses but fell in love with the place straight away.

Was gutted that I couldn't attend this years meet, especially after taking away 2nd place in the singles last year and winning the foursomes with TXL as my partner.

Also agree about the jacket & tie for lunch...last year was even hotter and it looks a bit stupid when some of the members and guests try to cut corners and just put a tie on with their golfing polo shirts and a jacket on top....looks a bit daft.......but what a lunch they serve.....I think we were half an hour late for the afternoon tees slots last year because no one wanted to leave the diner..............

How did you get on?

Absolutely love the Red course, makes for an interesting round having 6 holes of each par. Bit disappointed with the Blue, there are loads of much better courses in the area and after the Red, feels a bit of a let down. Still a great day out though and yes, the lunch is to die for!!

Hmmm. Tee to green, very well indeed. My chipping was dire though and I was struggling to cope with the speed of the greens too. Hit some lovely irons and didn't capitalise really. It certainly made me question my current view that I need to get some softer shafts in my irons.

Anyway, shot 77 around the Red Course and 75 around the Blue. We were a 3 ball so didn't bother with the greensomes and just had a second round of golf. The Blue included 3 birdies in a row with the 2 being very near to a 1. All sounds very immodest so I will shut up!

If I had chipped and putted better then I could have had a couple of good rounds. As it was, I played off 3 so came nowhere near the prizes. Some guy off 17 won with 38 points I think.

Cracking day out as you say and I would always defend the Blue Course. I think it is very good, albeit a bit short off the yellows.
