I am playing the PGA course on Monday, have heard its an extremely challenging course, very excited but also very nervous any advice PLEASE!!!!!!!

thanks
dave

Played it 3 weeks ago was in good nick - very open to the elements - if the wind blows you will know about it. Has the feel of in inland links - a totally different challenge to the Brabazon. Keep your ball on the short stuff - the rough can be penal, there are some interesting water hazards as well.

I thoroughly enjoyed it though as I'm sure you will.

the par5 2nd is very tricky theres water on the right that comes in to play on your second shot, and its got a very narrow fairway to the left on your second shot, the par3 third over water thats all i can say just gets harder in my opinion so got luck and enjoy ;)

I played the Brabazon on Thursday and PGA yesterday. Brabazon was having the fairways sanded but was still in decent condition, greens incredibly fast. The PGA was in great condition throughout, the greens being a bit more receptive when I occasionally hit them. Scored 37 points on the PGA which saw a good end to the 2 days. I wont mention my score on the Brabazon, it wasnt pretty.

thanks for all the advice people really really appreciate it.... although now im even more nervous haha. hopefully i can enjoy the round and not get to flustered, will post my score monday night!!!! if its not too shocking!!!

It's just a golf course, don't let the name change that. Just think that on a better standard of course you'll be hitting off better fairways and putting on truer greens. Bonus! Play your normal game and let the conditions help that and you'll really enjoy yourself.

I like the course and prefer it to the Brabazon

x2. The holes on the PGA are far more interesting than some on the Brab.

Likewise. The PGA is a more even course, whereas the Brabazon has a bunch of utterly forgettable holes interspersed with a very few good ones and the feature holes, which if you look at them critically are not terribly good holes either.

great course, greens lightning. de-greened for 4 putts on 1st last time i played.
some big bunkers, and some great holes, a lovely par 5 on back 9 with bunkers all over place - sorry cannot remember which hole but sure you will realise which one when you on tee.
enjoy

I just remember the really penal rough, you do not need to go that far off line to lose a ball.

Oh and I remember holing a shot from a greenside bunker where the face was a good couple of feet higher than me for an eagle (net 2). Rest of the round was awful golf wise as my game fell appart whilst playing with MikeH.

Just got back from a boys weekend. Played the PGA Friday, Derby yesterday and the Brabazon today. PGA was very good, in good condition with very true greens. Only downside was the way dick heads haven't raked bunkers or done divots which really winds me up. Scored 37 points and got cut to 18!

Derby was ok, greens have been verticut in the last couple of weeks, but were true and reasonably fast. Would class it as a simple parkland course with no tricks. Still bagged 38 points!!

Played the Brabazon this morning, 8.10 tee off (not clever after a couple of heavy nights and the clocks changing!) and whilst the fairways have been sanded, the course was in great nick, especially considering around 400 people have played it in the last couple of days. The greens were the fastest things I've ever seen, the started said they are about 11 on the stimp, and they killed me. The holes that stand out are obviously 10 and 18, but I felt the course is well set up and balanced, and was great for our last round decider.

To put it in perspective, I only managed 24 points today playing off 15, and still won ( Im not very popular, won the last 4 trips) and still couldn't get the smile off my face.

The whole place is very well run, with polite friendly staff who couldn't so enough. Food was good, and drink is bloody expensive to a greedy northerner, and it's a top spot for a boys weekend away.

Enjoy!!

What the crack with changing into golf gear. More shoes than anything? Its most obviously not the sort of place that lets people just change into golf shoes in the car park.
