Yes you read it right!

I restarted playing late 2009 after a long lay off while the kids grew up, but right back into it now. Trying to get back to 20 handicap where I was before I had the break!!

One of my regular playing partners is a fairly new golf addict and working on his handicap (and I have to say improving considerably). He is not averse to spending a bit on gear but as he is still in early days his new Ping G15’s were about as far as he had gone.

Mid last year I was offered a Hillbilly electric trolley from a relative who had it bought as a gift and never used it apart from the first outing to show his kids how much he ‘loved it’. While not too fussed I tried it out and soon took to it so parted with some cash.

I had a bit of a purple patch so spent the next couple of rounds telling my partners how the trolley had made all the difference and I felt so refreshed I could go out again for another 18 holes.

Partner 1 turns up two weeks later with a brand new and very smart Powercaddy and a beaming face. We then spent the next few weeks letting a third playing partner watch as our trolleys ran just ahead of us ‘to leave us with the maximum strength for the shot to come’.

Xmas comes and Mrs Hickoryshaft (catchy name) gets the hints from all the golf GPS leaflets I have left around the house and I have a new toy :) First game out and first tricky lie I have with no sight of the flag (because of a pushed Tee shot) and out comes the GPS with the exact yardage to the green. I promptly hit 3 ft from the pin much to my and my partners amazement!!! After knocking in my Birdie I proudly showed off the GPS.

Yes you guessed the next bit …. Now everyone is looking at GPS devices!

Feels like I have started a power struggle in the same vein as the arms race (maybe a bit dramatic that !!)

Next game I will mention that I have new Burner Irons on order (gift from the company) which is true, and see the reaction.

Then maybe I will talk admiringly about the new R11 driver and how that will be my next target to buy (which is not true)

Could be a fun Summer
