TBH they have a point, apart from them saying they own it of course. Let's be honest here the world is named and there is no need to go about re-naming parts of it, regardless of how long someone has been on the throne.

Nobody actually 'owns' the Antartic as there has never been an indigenous population...

Its run by a treaty signed in the early 60's if I remember my history correcty...

If anyone is doing "empire building" it ain't us the British its the Argies themselves...

This is nothing to do with Antartica its all to do with the Falklands...

Mega steve is correct, there was a treaty in 1961 signed by UK, Australia france. Norway, New Zealand, Chile and Argentina which basically says that nobody owns it, however each country has a scientific research base and the area has beem partitioned off for "Admin" purposes.

The British area is called "British Antarctic Territory" and it is this bit that has been renamed,"Queen Elizabeth Land" it doesnt mean that we own the land, we just now call it something else, I doubt if many of us will travel there

The Argies can call their bit by whatever they wish "Maradona Land" for instance

So its all a load of diplomatic hot air
