That one bad hole?

I have the attitude that I don't worry about things I have no control over. The last hole is gone, its over. There's nothing I can do about it now so I stop worrying about it.
Yes its a annoying but its gone.

Move on.

Yes. :)

I think we are discussing two different things though on this thread.

Hole messed up? move on and try to do better.

Constant problem holes? new strategy maybe.

I played our 10th today a new way. Having hit too much of a fade/slice at the 9th (I still made GIR) I decided I couldn't risk the driver at the 10th. I chose to hit a 4 iron off the tee (the hole is 411 yards) and see what I had left. It was a long way, but I got it pin-high on the right fringe with a 5 wood and 2 putted for a par.
What I tend to find is that once I've taken the trouble out off the tee, I then relax with the 2nd shot, confident that unless I hit a bad 'un, I'm going to make bogey anyway......

I can't really explain it.

I think it will depend on my driving that day. This 11th gives me 7 holes prior that are driver holes. If I've hit 7 solid drives and I've had good results the the boom stick will come out if not sod it 3w or grumps's hybrid 3 can have it's debut to see if it stays in the bag. The rescue should still only leave a 7i in instead of the wedge if i nail the big gun

I'm capable of running up a score on any given hole. There are some on my course I don't play well but the secret is to remember the good shots you've hit there and trust yourself. That said I was doing great in the medal on Saturday. I was just about level handicap standing on 9 even with a double on 6 (first ball OB and par with the second thanks to a chip and putt). The 9th isn't a hard hole. 400 yards and miss the bunker right but not in play as it was into the wind.

Huge slice. Find a greenside bunker on the 18th. Good stance and a chance to get over the ditch on the 9th. Hit it clean but hook it. Find it. Unplayable. Penalty drop and a hack. Duffed chip, on for 6 and two putts for a snowman (8). A bad hole from nowhere.

It happens. If you have one particular hole that it happens on then it needs a new strategy. Even if that means 3 x 7 iron in a medal and 2 putts for bogey (and probable nett par) then surely it has to be that rather than a macho driver or 3 wood and inevitable reload. As someone once said - KISS (keep it simple stupid) and its something I'm working really hard on now. That and know your limitations

This is what does me I can drive faultless up to that hole yet block it right or hook it left all the time I reckon in all the years I've played there I have only hit 5 or 6 decent shots off the tee. Set up may be an issue without even realising it

The 5th at Bearwood Lakes. Always does me in. Doesn't matter how well I've played the previous 4 holes, I get to that tee and I just know I'm up against it.
Fairly simple par 5 (high SI so I'm not shotting) all it needs is a knock down the middle, mid iron to get you to the bunkers and a wedge on.
I've only ever parred it once (courtesy of an absolutely fantastic chip to an inch from the back of the green) but I generally walk off there with a with a Billy Blob.
Stupid thing is, I then go and par the next hole 9 times out of 10.
I hate that stinking 5th hole.

IM gonna steel a game there thursday after work, play 3 different balls of the tee and see which has the best outcome.

Ive been thinking about this dam hole all night and im convinced its set up. because i can fly long of the tee im 99% sure im sitting up for the tiger line right hand edge of the fairway to leave me the shortest approach, its results in either a straight block or a strong draw (through closed stance)
