teeing the ball up

Never tee the ball up for irons. What's the point, all your other ones are hit off the deck, so do the same on a tee. I would mention that you do need good tees, with grass on them. Bare sandy tees, :(
The pros don't seem to take this approach and the tees they play on seem pretty well kept ;)
I have been using a tee quite low for irons for a while because of the reasons you suggested, but the last couple of weeks have gone back to a little higher and having better results..Just a mere mortal like Smiffy a suppose

Couldn't you ask your greenstaff to plant a few birch trees/blackberry bushes/rhododendrons in front of the tee markers Rich. It would make it even more realistic for you.

:D

Driver pinks
Ands irons Dropped from blue castle tees to the smaller orange ones and get a much better ball flight to the point I'm clubbing down, one and sometimes two clubs

Shot 35 and 40 points since the change with my average on par 3s at 4.4 previously 5.3, result

If you watch the pro's hit an iron off the tee, they tee it low and still take a nice big divot, especially with their medium to short irons. Most amateurs i play with tee it higher and don't take any divot. They seem to hit the ball at the bottom of the swing or even on the up swing. You will also get a lot less backspin this way.

Each to his own, but i must save at least a £1 a year on tees.

;)
