From the early pictures, the "volt" colour is only used as a highlight on the sole. From the top it looks the same as the 2016 model.
There are some suggestions that using the same name reduces cost and minimises the "yet another new driver" criticism. It is also said that they want to take advantage of the great reputation the M1 has built up rather than starting from scratch again.

Yep, i guess that's how I read it. Clearly changes of thinking at TM this last year.

It seems like TM can't win with some. Critised for using "creative" names and critised for not being creative by using the same name as last model.
