TaylorMade M1 - shaft info... hot off the press

Re: TaylorMade R1 - shaft info... hot off the press

Its been some time since I read the article but I think there is a bit in it about how much more we pay for a cup of coffee not compared with when the Callaway BB came out.... its all speculation though. Mygolfspy cant know what plans the manufactures have.

Maybe thats because coffee wasnt ludicrously overpriced 10 years ago unlike some golf clubs ;)

One I had a tendency to hook on a bad day no doubt lol

Callaway FT3 maybe, struggling to think what was before that

You had the FT3 when I met you. Anyhow I was trying to make the point that whatever it was I am sure it was expensive! Im pretty sure money is not usually a deciding factor for you when buying golf equipment.

Re: TaylorMade R1 - shaft info... hot off the press

I agree its all relative £400+ if you keep the club 5 years £80 per year[not bad].

The only trouble is they will bring a new one out soon and claim its better.

Also is this now going to be the norm £400+

I did get fitted for an R15 about 3 months ago, unfortunately we fell out and I sold it for £185 a massive loss,ok it wasn't the club but I will never pay big money again for something that could be a big money loser.

Did you leave it in your signature as a cruel reminder?

If it works and improved my driving I wouldn't hesitate in buying it

Re: TaylorMade R1 - shaft info... hot off the press

How much longer before " head only " is an option when buying.

If for example your a TM fan, you just just take your shaft between models.... Makes expensive fitted real shafts a more viable option and brings the cost of latest heads down loads. Shipping costs, packaging costs etc would also drop.

I bet more units would move at £250 keep your own shaft than at £400+ then put your own shaft in anyway

Interesting that I can get 915 D2 with an shaft upgrade for over £40 less.

Good shaft too (Graphite Design YS6+).

Just saying........

That's an interesting question but I doubt it would happen as it would shaft the shaft makers. I liked the look of this club and love the no upcharge element but think I'll be more likely to go with something like the Cobra Fly-Z as I could get the driver and fairway for the same price and when money is tight price is king. Also I wonder how many shaft options will be available when the product cycle moves on. Will it be limited...?

Re: TaylorMade R1 - shaft info... hot off the press

True but there are other clubs released at lower price points but if you need a shaft upgrade get up to or past that £400 figure. So knowing the price before fitting and with the quality of shafts on offer it's a really interesting proposition for those that can afford it.

Re: TaylorMade R1 - shaft info... hot off the press

My worry would be that Jason Day reckons he got 3 mph more ball speed and 10(?) yards more...
How much more is an average player going to get over the R15 or SLDR....?
It would be interesting to pitch it against the all-conquering SLDR and see any difference for real golfers, not robots..
For 400 quid I'd want a lot more than 10 yards......

I agree with this. £400 is a phenomenal amount of money for a driver. At least when you buy a titleist or ping you still get a decent return when you sell it for an upgrade. My sldr is only worth £100 at a push so i will be waiting for the m1 to be replaced before considering this club.

Are club manufactures really worried about shaft makers, I doubt it! If so companies wouldn't offer multiple models from multiple brands, would be multiple models from one brand.
