Hi folks

Decided to treat myself to a new set of irons and have narrowed it down to these two.

Do any of you have opinions as to which set is "better" and for what reason?

Both sets cost the same at American Golf at the moment so price is no issue between them.

I am an 18 handicapper on the verge of improving that as I'm hitting it very regularly now, my main reason is that my current irons (Callaway S2 H2) are looking tired and definitely need a complete re-grip which I am finding hard to justify as I have wanted new irons for some time.

I am also not at all bothered about the aesthetics - only performance. I currently hit a 6 iron around 160 and am not a terrible iron player but I don't shape shots yet I just want to hit straight and reasonably long with consistency.

Thanks for any advice as always.

sorry to be boring but, buy whichever you hit more consistently IMO

Just to offer an opinion,I have the rbz irons and really like them, very strong lofts so watch that.the 4&5 irons were hybrid like and I really disliked them and changed them out for rocket bladez. The 4i is 21 degrees and the pw is 45 so you may need to add in a gap wedge between your sand wedge.

Thanks for that was very helpful - my mate has the Burners which having just looked up their lofts you've explained why he seemed to hit his new clubs so far. I'm not sure about the look of those RBZ 4&5 so I'll go along to the shop and compare both models.

Not sure there is much difference in the lofts, you may have trouble tracking down a matching gap wedge for either set if that's your preference.
The Rbz are a newer model but basically the same club. Only downside to the burners is the black finish will look well used quite quickly.

I have the Burner 2.0 Chrome 4i-SW irons and in my opinion they are probably the most under rated TM irons available, especially for the price, I think Mark Crossfield did a You Tube review of them and said the same thing. I pretty much hit all of them upto the 5i consistently straight with good distance and height, very easy to get the ball in the air. I don't use the 4i in many situations, but even that is now going quite well now if I setup and swing well. Love the SW and is now one of my most used clubs, so I've had no real reason to go out and spend a fortune on extra wedges, but I would image the TM ATV would make for a good Gap Wedge companion if that is required - I haven't needed one.

In contrast I've had both the TM RBZ and Rocketbladez irons for a week each as a hire set and I detested the RBZ irons, especially the 4i and 5i, they looked very chunky at address and I just found them a little bit more difficult to hit and get the ball in the air. The Rocketbladez do look alot more elegant at address and nicer to swing, I hit the 5i well and consistently straight, but didn't seem to get as much distance as the Burners - could have done with the 4i in that particular situation, but of course I don't think you get the 4i in the set? For the price, and getting a full set 4i-SW of irons, I really don't think you can beat the Burners IOM.

Thanks all - I also had a look at Callaway RAZR HL irons and looked at the lofts on those - they do the same thing.

No wonder people say their new irons go much further I genuinely had no idea that different manufacturers used such differing lofts so that is super useful advice for me cheers.

Gonna have to give this some thought - I'm a bit limited in places to try out clubs here which is why I'm trying to get an idea before I end up going somewhere like American Golf.

you will find many long and emotive threads on iron lofts, jacked lofts etc on here (and elsewhere) - and you will also find that the only agreement is over the 'facts' of the loft itself; just about everything else will get you a lot of disagreement.

the question of whether a particular models 6i goes further or not is a marketing matter; once you actually pick the club up to try it the marketing is behind you - the only thing that matters then is how you get on with the clubs.

you can compare 6 irons (normally) and you will find differences in ball flight, distances as well as the imponderable 'how easy you find to hit the club'. You then need to put all these together to understand how that set will work for you on the course.

a simple example should suffice - 160 yard iron shot into a green; a very common situation,

it doesn't matter what number the club has on it's base, only how easily the particular models club does the job for you - your golf will also improve when you take no absolutely no notice of which number the club has on it for any praticular distance relative to other players too - but that's another story!!!

Heehee I'm leaning towards the Callaways now I've gotten past the thinking of easy extra yardage.

They sound super forgiving which is far more important to me I guess.
