I was asked to cover my arms once,and i also overheard comments being made about my Tattoo's whilst waiting to tee off in a county qualifier.
Brings a whole new meaning to the terms petty,and narrow minded.

That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard, no ones gonna die from your mate having a tattoo, especially something like the name of his wife, If I was him Id tell him to mind his own business cos that's really not what a pro should be concerned about

I texted my mate to tell him about your moral support guys and he said that was the third time in about 12 years of golfing he was asked to cover his tattoo but he has been subject to banter or has overheard remarks about it very often when playing in "posh" clubs. Once he was asked by the pro shop guy if he was there to fix the toilets.

I have tattoos and I've got to be honest...I bloody hate them.
When I first joined Crowborough Beacon, I used to keep them hidden up because I was embarrassed I had them. Crowborough was a bit of a "snobby" club, it was considered a feather in the cap to be a member there, and I wanted to fit in.
One day I was playing with a right couple of ponces and had a jumper on covering my tats, but as the morning warmed up I had to take it off, baring my arms for all to see.
Their faces were a picture when they noticed them..
After that I thought "sod it" and just got on with things. Nobody ever said anything and nobody ever refused to play with me...


I still hate the bloody things, I am still self conscious of them but have never been told to cover them up.
Don't know what I'd do if I was to be honest.

Having said so, problem is that golf is still considered a middle-upper class game, particularly in clubs and tattoos are still considered working class.

Perhaps in your part of the country but in Scotland it is very much a classless sport (Thank goodness)

I've a few on my legs - I was going to put them on my arms but decided to keep them off my forearms so I can wear short sleeve shirts etc in work without being 'judged'.

When I first joined my club I covered the tatts. But one Sunday in the height of summer I wore a pair of shorts (Yes SHORTS) as I was playing by myself the 2ball infront asked me to join them, I was a little hesitant but did. While walking from teh teebox one of the players mentioned my tattoo - he just asked what it said, and then mentioned that all you young uns seem to have them. Including his son who is a medical doctor. Afterwords I just took the attitude that I like them and dont care if people wrongly judge me as a thug.

As long as you meet the clubs dress code and do not breach any written rules, i see no problem why you can not play any course.

If asked again, simply take your money and play else where.

i have tattoos on my lower arms, inside fore arm and inside of my wrist, have never give them a second thought before,

i understand peeps opinion of me may already be a little bit tainted, because the course i play at has no dress code so for casual rounds i dress casual and comfy, but add on the tattoos

but this topic goes back to my point of whats written in the rules on a club by club basis reguarding appearence, shouldnt have any sway with whats acceptable or not it it doesnt disregard the rules set out

Absolute joke, i could understand if the tattoo was racist or offensive in anyway ie/ foul language but other than that there is no excuse. It is clubs like this that give the complete wrong impression to others about members clubs.Just another example of how golf clubs at times turn people away from the game with pompous inappropriate rulings. Name and shame, i would happily send them an email with a link to this thread.

Never heard of anyone with tattoos being asked to cover up. Wouldn't bother me, although I think there will be a lot of people who regret them when they get older and wrinklier.

I suppose if it was an offensive word, might be OK to ask to cover up, but if it is the usual 'Sharon 4 ever' or one of those Japanese tattoos that you think says something profound but actually says you are a ****, then I can't see why there should be a problem.
