Taking illegal clubs to Portugal

The driver I have is the Nike Sumo and JustJan said the head is too big and that it's illegal in U.K. And USA

the he head is large but what the maximum size head allowed in Portugal?

It changes, the max head size is linked into the current £/Euro exchange rate. Roughly, you have to multiply 460cc by the Euro value (roughly £1.20 atm) so I would say approx 552cc today.

Check the day before you fly out though just to be on the safe side

Hiya guys.

Listen im going to Portugal in Feb with the lads (shagger, BC, Mental Baz, justjan and sicknote)

i have an illegal Nike Sumo SQ drivers and wandering if I should take this? Will the fuzz confiscate my club if found?

What makes you think it's 'illegal' (non-conforming) with a higher than allowed Coefficient of Restitution - the so-called 'Spring-like effect'? It makes no difference what country you are in btw!

Max head size is 460cc which is what the Sumo SQs were/are! To check exactly which version you have, check around the head for the words 'Sumo' or 'Sumo2'. If only 'Sumo' appears, then I'm pretty sure it's fine; if 'Sumo2' appear, then i'm pretty sure it's non-conforming!

I know quite a few guys who play 'friendlies' (even for some cash) who have non-conforming drivers, their mates don't object - especially as some of them also have Drivers that old (from around 2006/2007).

Are there any other words (eg. 5300 or 5900) on the head?

They should still be banned for the horrendous noise they make though!!

Check here and search for your exact driver details. http://www.randa.org/RulesEquipment/Equipment/Equipment-Explorer

It'll tell you the exact things you need to look for.

For example. The Sumo 2 5900 Identification Markings

SOLE: ((triangle) (loft), SQ (Nike logo), (sumo² on recessed trapezoid) in trapezoid), 5900, SUPER MOMENT OF INERTIA
CROWN: (two lines alignment mark)

Nike did recall and reissued with slight change to identification marks to indicate the newer reissued clubs that did conform.

Either way illegal (non-conforming) in competition is not going to get you lifted by police/customs and you can happily use it for a social game. Truth is newer conforming drivers are going to give you more of an advantage than a non-conforming Sumo 2.

Unfortunately I realise getting an actual answer to question is difficult when reading through this thread. Welcome to a golf forum in winter when the madness increases.

Thank you Bob

any golf tips too? Would love to beat BC one day but he is 16 handicap now and wins non stop

John Anderson? he was Headie at my secondary school - but he died yonks ago - unless he just disappeared...But by goad he was evil with the tawse - and that would get you arrested today

True story mate. I lost everything. My kids still don't speak to me. All I wanted was a bit extra spin, and next thing I'm sat next to a guy who was selling fake Pro V's, having my man plums connected to a car battery whilst Celine Dion sang about her heart going on repeatedly. I'll never try it again.

classic:rofl::rofl::rofl:

its not Portugal i would be worrying about. The British Golf Police monitor these pages for illegal clubs, don't be surprised if you get a raid at 4am over the weekend.

You have a big mouth it is a pitty this is not replicated in the size of your brain, I am not here to make friends. I have real feely touchy ones. Not imaginary interweb ones,
This is a forum ( look it up ) you do have a dictionary?
I expressed an opinion based on experience. I can defend it by debate and true examples. I challenged you to defend your playground comments. Why don't you try?
Have anice day. 

somehow mate i dont think you are going to make many friends on this forum ,i suggest you would be far better off joining WRX .they like people like you on that site.

First where does it say he is a new member? Even if true what is the relavence? Yes, good new speak." Colourful nicknames " the names reflect the mentality, and the personalities they are attached to.
It is my belief that his post was a spoof unable to make some meaningful contribution to the forum he came up with this..can anyone, even he, be that stupid.
F.Y.I. my response while true if in some respects was tongue in cheek response to his leg pull.

Have a nice day.

The joining date of a member is shown under their forum name and can also be found by clicking on their profile, I see that you are also a relatively new member and hence my reply.
As for relevance, we all take a while to integrate into a forum, where we might not be used to the way some members post, or what might be read as a tongue in cheek comment (I didn't read yours as tongue in cheek, maybe I made a mistake there) so it's nice to allow a bit of leeway.

Not sure what you mean about "new speak" but to me the nicknames tell nothing about the on course and off course behaviour of their holders, until we've had the opportunity of playing with them none of us could categorically say what type of playing partners they are.

If his post was a spoof then it was fairly amusing as spoof posts go and provided further amusement in some of them

You've maybe ruffled a few feathers and had a few of your own ruffeld, but the main point of my reply concerns the highlighted part above.

Taking this line you're potentially missing out on what for me is the best part of the forum.
Many on here have formed some great and lasting friendships, and just take a look in the "Arrange a game" section to see how your golfing horizons can be expanded.
None of us agree with every post made but in my experience it's not worth getting into a slanging match where nobody usually wins, just smile inwardly, walk away and post another day.
